Sorry, but if I constantly am losing a mercenary, here or there, which take a long time to level up, then there is no point to playing this game. The problem may be mine, but I don't plan on getting a master's degree in a video game. Especially, considering they tell you, you are going to lose characters. It becomes a point of diminishing returns, you lose a 7th level fighter, to replace him with a level 2 fighter, then it starts snowballing. Just done with this game.
Can't please everyone.

Potentially stupid question but you're aware of the game's save system, right? I actually did savescum quite a bit during the very first attempts up to the point where I felt that I had enough understanding about the game's intricacies and thresholds (when to [relatively] safely face off against brigands and/or beasties, for example) to continue on without. I'd say savescumming is actually a viable part of learning how to play Battle Brothers.

A strong strategy I've found is to always work on bringing up an "apprentice" for your important roles (shieldwall, standard bearer, etc.). That way, you will often have backups ready to take on the duties of your main brothers. Sure, they'll be a little weaker, but if you're careful with your contracts you can make them even better than the guys they replace. I don't always have a backup ready, but it helps when things get hairy.

True, you cannot please everyone and I don't even recommend trying, but the guy has a point. The devs should just have made it an option to allow permadeath or to let you revive units defeated in battle at a temple. I too am growing tired of savescumming just to work around this baloney mechanic. The game has a difficulty setting, why is there no easy? The RNG is trash and skill is NOT the primary factor invovled with your survival... LUCK of the RNG draw is.

Heck even with the most recent updates they made I find enemies are starting to run a lot now. The enemies used to fight down to the last man frequently now I have to manage for the soon to occur flee attempt that now happens in almost all of my fights. I have even watched units easily evade zone of control repeatedely.

I am becoming less and less interested in playing the game because if I want to enjoy it... I have to savescum. And because of that I will be waiting until the DLC is dirt cheap before buying any.
Don't get me wrong, it was aggrivating early-mid game, but once you've got cash for proper formations you shouldn't be losing essential bros every 30 days anymore. You're going to lose frontline bros, they're disposable. That's how the mechanics work. The permadeath makes Battle Brothers, you have to incorporate that mechanic in your play. With the exception of enemies you haven't learned yet, you should have a formation in mind that works in every encounter on every field. Stay out of swamp and snow if you can help it. Otherwise there aren't many terrain types. Keep warhounds on your bros against skellies and alps. Yeah, besides picking the best gear you can get, there's not much else to say.
