I'm seriously considering buying this game, but I have a question first: how good is the tutorial and/or manual? It's clear that this is a fantastic game, but I don't feel like struggling to figure out how to play. I find this to be a problem with a lot of old games.
Thanks,

the starting area is set up as a tutorial just make sure you talk to everyone there (you should already do this it is an rpg afterall) get a ranged weapon early and save often. If you get turned off by dying this might not be the game for you but if you enjoy having to come up with new strategies and the reward of finally beating a hard encounter this game is very enjoyable.
There really isn't much of a tutorial, but certain NPCs early on will help you learn the basics. The manual is a great resource, but very dense, so you should expect to take a bit of time with it unless you are previously familiar with AD&D 2nd edition rules.

That said, I had next to no experience with said rules, and only put a minimum of effort into reading the manual when the game was released. I made some mistakes as a result, but was still able to enjoy the game.

Like many older games, Baldur's Gate does have a bit of a steep learning curve, but if you go into the game with the right attitude, and a little patience, you'll get to experience and enjoy one of the best RPGs in (relatively) recent years.
Alright, thanks @ both of you. I'll buy it. =)
In case you have trouble with D&D rules, here is a very nice and short (sort of) guide for them :) (DSimpson's guides rock in general, it's worthwhile to check them out)

And yes... you should buy it! ;)
