I have implemented the solutions above (turn off 3d, use the dd fix), and the game is technically playable in windowed mode, but still much smaller than I like. If I run the game in full screen, it is offset, revealing about an inch of the desktop above and to the left, making about an inch of the game on the bottom and the right unseen, rendering the game unplayable. The is somehow caused by the dd fix, since I can uninstall it and the game runs in full screen just fine, other than the flickering cursor and the incredibly slow response.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Hurton: Hi! The problem is that Baldur's Gate 2 overrides your graphics card's scaling setting. I don't know how to remedy this if you have an ATI card but for Nvidia it's an easy fix.

First make sure your drivers are up to date, and open the Nvidia control panel. (It's usually an option when you right click on your desktop) In the task pane, expand 'Display' and select 'Adjust desktop size and position'.

In this menu, make sure the 'Override the scaling mode set by games and other programs' option is checked. This Means your GPU will ignore BG2's request to have no scaling. Then select the scaling mode of your choice.
No scaling is what BG2 currently does- a black box surrounds the game.
Aspect ratio fills as much of the screen as possible without stretching the image- if you have a widescreen mod, BG2 should be full screen. If you don't, this will make it bigger, but use black bars on either side to stop the picture looking stretched.
Full screen fills the screen, regardless of the image aspect ratio- this will make the game look distorted without a widescreen mod.

This should fix it! If it still doesn't work, try Changed the 'perform scaling on' drop-down' box.
replying to a two year old post, but this fixed it for me. thank you for making my fave rpg playable again.

ATI/AMD Catalyst Control Center doesn't have this ability. However, the following solution works well:

1. Download DxWnd and extract the archive.
2. Run dxwnd.exe.
3. Go to Edit > Add.
4. Under the Main tab, enter the path to bgmain.exe.
5. Under the Generic section, uncheck "Run in Window." This will restore your display resolution when the game is minimized.
5. Under the Input tab, Cursor handling section, uncheck "Correct mouse position."
6. Click OK.
7. Double click the newly created icon that appears within the DxWnd program window to run the game.

Mentioning it here and on several other threads because it's the only thing that works for me and it was hard to find.
Thanks man couldn't play without rhis.

Tallima: This is usually a laptop setting, not a software setting. Most laptops have a setting to stretch the screen to full screen for unsupported low resolutions.
Help from the past, thank you. I've just installed Intel Graphics Command Center Beta and had this issue, Baldur's Gate was a tiny window in the center of a black screen. Then I saw your post and looked Command Center again for some setting. "Scale" (which I already had seen but dimissed) is the third option in the "Display" pane. I've set ito to "maintain aspect ratio" and it streched fullscreen, keeping aspect ratio, with black borders left and right. My adapter is Intel UHD 630

Yay! For my last display that I bought, I made sure it could handle so if that naively. It can get to be a pain tracking down what is doing what to your graphics.

Man. 2014. Lots has happened since then.

I can not run BG2 classic with UHD 630, windowed mode works fine but image is centered and flickering in fullscreen. Scale option is set as "maintain aspect ratio" in Intel Graphics Command Center. Baldur's Gate 1 (original) and Icewind Dale 2 works fine, I only have this problem with BG2, any ideas?

Perhaps it's a resolution issue. When I try to play BG1 or BG2 with windows scaling ON (for instance 125%, which make text larger) the games wont run, they just flash and close. Open Display Settings, set scaling to 100% and try some screen resolutions. For me, any resolution will work, as long as scaling is 100%.

Hi, I solved this problem with Aqrit's DDrawFix for Infinity Engine games;
