Hi there,

I was doing a recent play through of the gog edition of soa on a laptop,
I located the save game files and sent them over to my pc via email.
I extracted them to the correct location and all, but for some reason they aren't working.
The only save file there is the broken autosave from the very start of the game, which never worked after that.
I didn't install any mods or patch the game, both os' were 7 64 bit.

Any help resolving this would be much appreciated :)
Do you have the UAC activated on your desktop pc but deactivated on your laptop? Do you use an admin-account on your laptop but a normal one on your PC? Did you run the game as admin on your laptop? Is the game installed in Program Files\whatever on your PC?

The problem is basically that Win Vista/7 relocates the saves to a hidden folder in its own depth and the game doesn't find saves in its own folder anymore. Deactivating the UAC or using an admin account or runing the game as admin solves that and the game will be able to use it's own save folder where you presumably put your saves.

I installed the game in the same place in both, they're both running as admin and all that, I'll try what you suggested though and see what happens, thank you :)

Yes but where? As mentioned above, if you installed in Program Files, the game does not save in its own folder. Instead they are in the Win7 virtual store -

C:\Users\<username>\Appdata\Local\Virtual Store\Program Files (x86)\ ... (etc)

Recommended to always install games somewhere else to avoid this nuisance.

Or you can just put your saves in the virtual store folder. Can get a bit tedious though I gather if you swap saves often... :D
