How good does the game look when using the widescreen mod, like in a 1680x1050 monitor?

I'm not a graphics whore, but i'm sort of a visuals....whore. I don't mind playing older games but mostly if their 2D art is pretty awesome and doesn't get stretched into "unbearable" pixels. For example, before Planescape Torment was released on GOG, i played it without the WS mod (didn't know there was one) and the image quality really put me off.

Does BG1 look bearable with the mod?
It just gives more pixels on the screen but doesn't provide new sprites. This means the sprites will be smaller on your screen because the engine doesn't use scaling.

Planescape and BG use the same engine but Planescape uses larger sprites. If you didn't like how Planescape looked than you'd probably dislike BG worse.

gnarbrag has the technical details correct. Whether or not you will like the art in BG under the widescreen mod is difficult to say. BG has a much brighter color palette overall and the world is far less surreal. As awesome as Planescape is as a game, I thought that the art direction was more solid overall in BG1/2 in terms of what each game was trying to achieve.
Hmm thanks. I guess i'm okay with that and i wanna buy them but i'll wait and see if they go on sale, just got NWN2 on steam to pass me over till then

In my opinion, all infinity engine games look great with ws mods. I too have a 1650x1080 monitor, and it was important for me too that these older games looked good on my screen.
They look even better than I remember them from the old days, the hand made 2d graphics are still awesome and have nothing to envy to todays visuals.
I sugest trying out these games with the mods, they are great and a must for widescreens imo.
Cheers.
Honestly if your worried about how its going to look in Wide screen format I suggest you buy both BG1+BG2 and use the mod that converts BG1 into BG2 format, it updates the menus, Character Skills, Models you name it.
Sorry Arianus only saw your post now :s only got BG1 so far

I like how it looks actually... One small issue though. When i'm talking with a NPC, the camera, instead of centering on the place of the conversation, moves lower and the PC + the NPC show on one of top corners. It's not a big problem but it's a bit annoying to the eyes seeing these fast and uneccessary camera scrolls which i'm guessing are caused by the widescreen mode. Any way to fix?
