I have windows 7 and cant seem to get the game to install after the download. my computer keeps telling me that Windows doesnt know which program to use to open it

Which game are you referring to?
BG1 should have one .exe file
BG2 should have two .bin and one .exe, kept in the same folder.

If you used downloader and have some strange extension, try changing it to .exe. Sometimes the program doesn't rename it properly after finishing the download, although it should.
