Hey guys,

Recently I've decided to reinstall the old Original saga of the series just for the sake of nostalgia, and after playing little I noticed a problem where the background music does not play at certain times when it should be.

- The music does not play in the background when entering any temple, instead of playing this:

All I get are just the footsteps of my party

- The music does not play in dreams, here watch this video

As you can see there is music in it, but in my game only the narrator's voice is heard

No mods are installed. And the game is always run as administrator.

Does anyone know what might cause this issue and how would I be able to fix it, it feels pretty dull to play like this.

Specs:
Windows 7 x64, Original saga is from GOG, the sound 'card' I use is onboard (Realtek ALC898 Audio Codec)

Thanks in forward

EDIT: I forgot to mention, but the 'Environmental Sounds' option is disabled and greyed out and I can't check/uncheck it.

Also I play the game while using the 'Q' quicksave button a lot. This tends to usually reset the music from the beginning so I'm not sure if this might cause any problems.

I think there's a lot left unfixed in original saga. There are Baldurdash fixes, Dudleyville fixes, and more...
I never played original TOS, but in BGT it always worked fine for me.

The thing is when I look at the playthroughs of the original BG they also have everything working as normal, and this is just the original BG not Trilogy or TuTu or anything. So I'm still not sure if it's me or something else the problem here.

The music plays in my GOG classic version, unmodded.

Then the problem is somewhere on my end, but I have no idea how to find what is causing it.

This may sound obvious, but it's quite easily missed: do you have the music volume set too low?

Heh, I checked it before and nope it was at normal. I decided to fire it up to the max and still no music.
Does the music *never* play during dreams or in temples, or just occasionally not play? Even back on my original 1998 CD-ROM version of the game, there were times when I'd occasionally not have the music trigger -- but a quick-save would start it up again. You can't do that during a dream sequence, but if I re-loaded and rested again then I'd almost always get the music to play during the dream the second time. Never could figure out why that would happen, but I'm guessing it's some kind of code-logic race condition where the game tried to trigger the music before all the area resources were loaded.

If the music NEVER plays for you during those events, then you probably have a corrupted installation. I'd recommend doing a complete uninstall and manually delete your installation folder ("C:\GOG Games\Baldur's Gate" -- or wherever you chose to install it), then re-download the setup files from GOG again.

Occasionally.

And yeah, your situation was same as mine, sometimes it doesn't play during the dream sequence and chapters sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't play during temple and battles and day/night etc... but a simple quicksave will reset the music and it will start normally.

I'll wait and see if anyone else might know how to fix this, if not then oh well I'll just play like this. Good thing it's not something game breaking but just mildly annoying.
