I came across my original BG2 CDs recently, along with my original Icewind Dale CDs - both had been lost for many a year! Just wondered if anybody knew what DRM/Copy Protection they have on them? Circumstances atm (illness + no health insurance) dictate that the best I can do is to "Wishlist" them here on GoG, but if the DRM used is of the more benign type (checking that the CD is in the drive), I'll install from my old CDs until I can buy them here. I've done some Google searches, but can't find any info - any assistance appreciated.

Thiev: CD-check only.
That's good to hear! Thanks. I'm assuming from your reply that a CD check is true for both games? I'll be glad when I can get the GoG version, all the same.

As far as I remember, yes. Disc swapping was the only nuisance in BG / IWD / PST.

That's what I was hoping not to hear - but what I sort of suspected (nagging feeling it was securom). No way I'm having that lurking on my machine! I guess I'll just have to wait until I can get the GoG download then. :-(

This can be rectified by copying the contents of the cd's to disc and editing the appropriate "game".ini file. You can also make a copy of the play disc and put the original away for safe keeping as it will handle the disc check with no problems.
If you choose the "huge" install from the disks, then there isn't any swapping required, because all the files get put on your hard drive anyway. There's still a disk check, though. With ToB installed it wants the ToB disk instead.
