Now, while the site and the forums and all look legit, I am a bit apprehensive about putting my oh so sensitive debit card info in, since I've -never- heard of this site until /v/ pointed me towards it (Reason enough to be reluctant).

I was thrilled to see the complete BG2 collection available for 9.99, but I have some questions first.

1: Why is this game only available at gog.com for digital download? I have had no luck finding the actual game in my local game shops or on steam for that matter.

2: This is all kosher right? The game will work and operate just as well as if I had installed it right off a legit disk?

3: I've glimpsed a few threads and seen a lot of comments about having issues installing games from the site. Is there a guide on the forums that provides all the downloading and installing details?

I'm really most concerned about my first 2 questions.
Not only is this site legit and the game will play like it was off the disk (actually even better because a lot of GOG games are updated to run on newer operating systems which isn't always true for games off the original disk.) Once you purchase the game you can then log on to your account on any computer and download the game which is nice if you have a home PC and a work laptop.

Because GOG was so far only DD store able to make deal with Atari/Hasbro.

Of course it is. It will work even smoother because you don't have to change CD's. ;-)
And you can believe GOG it's trustworthy company which has been around for more than 2 years and have a thousands of customers. You can take a look around forums, which scam site would have so many users and so many posts? (I myself own around 30 games here and never had any problem)

Well there is no official guide for installation but it's easy enough. You just pick install destination and there you go. You can think a lot of users have some issues but in fact they are minority. People who had no problems usually don't make threads "Can install BG! No help needed!".
Though, you can encounter some problems, there is no guarantee you won't (there isn't on any site) but as you mentioned there are some threads with problems and thease can usually be used to resolve yours.

Well, Good answers so far. :D I just wanna be absolutely certain is all. You can never be too paranoid when handing over data about yourself, ya know?

I think I'll give that BG2 download a look then. =p Sorry if I came off as silly. Just wanted to make sure this site was legitimate.
Not silly at all. It's a legitimate concern, and it's tough to put your trust in a site you don't know. Just to add one more vote to the "This site is trustworthy" camp, I can tell you I've purchased around 20 games from this site for myself and gifted a half dozen or so to others over the last couple years. Used my credit card for every purchase and never had any issues whatsoever.
I would just like to add another tick in the box of YES this site is 100% legit. You can download the games you buy whenever you want as many times as you want, DRM free so you can get a friend round and put Baldur's Gate 2 on their laptop and lan some awesome multiplayer.

Have bought about 6 items and gifted 1, no problems at all, this is one of the best websites out there, these games are not only good and old they are indeed hard to get hold of. ANd the worst thing is most of them have multiple install CD's! GoG deals with all of that for a VERY reasonable price. The future of quality gaming is in this sort of business model :)
Clovis, I was exactly like you. I had NEVER purchased something online before, until I began purchasing from gog.com a few months ago. The site is legit. Gog.com is actually owned by the same company that put out The Witcher, which uses Bioware's Aurora Engine (the engine for Neverwinter Nights 1), hence showing they have a previous business relationship with them, and they wait till they have a deal in place w/publishers before they sell games.

I'm as cautious as you are in terms of buying things online, and I feel completely safe w/this website here.

EDIT I use my credit card, never my debit, for online buying (and gog is the only place I feel comfortable doing so). Gog asks for your credit card, not debit as you wrote in your 1st post in this thread. At least that's how I read it when I purchase here.

Another positive vote here. I have 10-11 games so far and everything has been a snap to install with no problems running the games. And as others have noted its really nice to play games like BG 1 & @ without having to swap discs.
Yeah GOG is definitely trustworthy. I've bought several games here myself, and I've been a member since the open beta.
I was never apprehensive, but I went ahead 8 days ago and joined up, then purchased BG1, 2 and NWN1 off here for the ease of use, and I have to say GOG is one of my favourite retailers already, after such a short period of time. It strikes me as a well ran, friendly company with a large and helpful community and a great catalogue of games. I shall be buying again.

P.S you could always use Paypal if you were entirely reluctant.
Also note that GOG supports buying games using PayPal, so you do not have to provide them with your credit card information if you have a PayPal account (which I would recommend if you intend to purchase stuff often through online stores). And yes, GOG is 100% legit and has been around for a couple of years - I own over 40 games from GOG and the ones I have tried (too little time :() have worked without a problem.
I recently purchased BG 2, downloading now. Glad the site is getting so many votes of confidence. Thanks guys. :D
Add another to the "happy camp" for GOG.com.

I am truly impressed that they have so many of these classics that are COMPATIBLE with Win 7 64bit, so far the ONLY place I have found with BG1/BG2 AND Fallout 1/2 advertising Win 7 compatability!

Brilliant stuff.
