I didn't see this question answered anywhere else, so I thought I'd ask it here...

I'm having issues trying to play/set up a multiplayer game. When I click connect, create game and join game are both grayed out, and clicking on protocol leaves me with nothing but grayed out options.

I've tried re-installing it so there are no spaces in the path, tried disabling Window's firewall, and tried running it in administrator mode, all to no avail.

I'm running Baldur's Gate 1, and my OS is Vista.

You need to select a protocol, for the multiplayer game and only then the option to create or join will be available.

(the multiplayer game in BG1 is for networking, if this is not what you are looking for; then I do not know how to make a multiplayer game on a solo PC)

Also check this out, see if this helps for a LAN/Multiplayer game ->

I tried the IPX wrapper, and that still didn't solve the issue. The problem is that all the protocols are grayed out, and it won't allow me to select a protocol to use.

"x_x

That is out of my scope, I have 3 options available in my BG1 game/executable and BG2 game/executable.. IPX (bcs of wrapper), TCP/IP and Serial (all three available)

Sorry, couldn't be of help.
