Hello everybody, I have a small big problem, all of a sudden I got the following message while trying to load a savegame of Baldur's Gate (GOG):

"An Assertion failed in D:\Dev\Baldur\InfScreenLoad.cpp at line number 1358"

I do not really know what happened, I have never faced problems with GOG version of BG (I have Windows 7), the game starts normally and you can start a new game without a problemm, but if you try to load a game you get this error annd must close BG.

(BG2 works normallly and you can load game).

Does annyone had something similar or may be of help?? You know, completing BG without saving and lloading may be difficoult...

Safe bet would be that save got corrupted. It wasn't in Beregost by any chance?
Do you have an earlier save to roll back?

I was in Balldur's Gate, but I believe it's something related to the game itself, BG crashes when you click on 'load game' and not when you load a specific save.

I tried to install BG again, but it's the same, I even tried too load a "restoration point" of Win7, but it's the same.

It crashes, because one of screenshot files (each save has one) got corrupted.
Go to your saves folder and in each subfolder delete screenshot file (I don't remember if it's .bmp or .jpg). Start with the most recent and try to load game after each one.

Alrighty. Things to look at (I'd do it in this order):

- Check your save game files and make sure they're not set as Read-Only files.
- In your save game directory, find any bitmap files and send them to the recycle bin.
- TEST
- If it is working, you can try to put back bmps one at a time to figure out which on was corrupted.
- If it is not working, remove your custom portraits and test again
- TEST
- Go to <BGInstallDirectory>/cache/data and delete the files in there
- TEST
- If not working, re-run the configuration file and set everything to as simple as possible.
- TEST
- If it works, save as a new save file and then max things out again. If it fails after max it out, you can play with graphics, waypoints, etc and try to figure out what made the problem.
- If still failing, try uninstalling and then reinstalling to a different location.

Let us know if it gets working or not.

It's working now, thanks a lot!
I canceles all the bmp files of the quick and automatic save and now everything is ok. The new saves include the new bmmp files..nnot corrupted.
Thanks a lot for your help!!

EDIT: Once you get it working, I'd still uninstall and reinstall again. If you have a corrupt area in your install directory, then it'll just corrupt it again later.
