Hi I just dual classed to a Thief from my Kensai. I chose katanas for my Kensai and for the thief I chose dagger and short bow. However I cannot seem to equip a shortbow? Does this mean I will have to play until level 10 thief using only daggers?
You can choose other proficiencies (thieves get a new point every 4 levels) like quarterstaff for example when you level up. Daggers are quite powerful, throwing daggers get an extra attack per round. You won't be able to use bows or any other weapons kensais can't use before reaching 3,080,000 XP as thief and taking the use any item HLA.
That is the main reason right there that I hate kensai/thieves. Just go multi fighter/thief. Much better in my opinion.

Yeah it does suck :( I thought that when I dual I loose abilities of the first class (including the limitations) until you get to be one level higher in the second class. Only then does anything from the first class come into play again.

Guess I have to use throwing daggers then (thanks kmonster for the tip). Don't have the time to start over again and the OCD purist in me will prevent getting attached to any character touched by an editor.

But I do have to say that once you get UAI, they're pretty ridiculous from what I hear.
Dual-wielding is also fun and effectively eliminates the downside of not being able to use ranged, since that's standard when dual-wielding.

I also agree with cbarchuk, multiclass ftw.
Yea multiclass fighter/thieves are full of win. The biggest two advantages is playing a non-human and you get the HLA's from both classes. The main disadvantage is your leveling will be a bit slower. But it's not bad though. Thieves already level extremely quick so I think this is pretty minor. I'm not sure but I think the fighter/thief levels the fastest out of the all the multi class combinations.
