Hi.

I like being able to use the tooltips so I have the tooltip delay set quite low. But I am finding the "scroll being unrolled" sound when a tooltip appears really grating.

Does anyone know of a way to remove this sound?

Thanks.

Matt

I've always lower the sound effects vol.

There is a way to mute it of course - the file that plays the tooltip unscrolling sound is named PAPER.WAV so just record some empty wav file in 352 kbps and put it in your Override folder in BG/BG2 directory. Make sure it is named correctly.

I would attached it here but GOG won't let me ;)

have fun
G.

Thanks Gwai. Is it essential that the file be exactly the same size?

Matt
I find this sound a bit annoying too, but can't find paper.wav anywhere, either in BG1, Tutu or BG2 folders. No hits at all on "paper" in either game folder.

I was hoping just creating an empty file with the correct file name would sort this :(
You should put a new file in the override folder. If Gwai is right, it should be named "PAPER.WAV", and NOT "paper.wav". If I remember correctly, the infinity engine is sensitive to capital letters in filenames.
@sandbags file don't need to be the same size, but me thinks it needed to be recorded in the same bitrate - 352kbps you can use the one from this post

in an ideal situation, override folder should be empty because all the game files are stored in *.bif files, but, since we're livin in "patched" and "modded" world all updated files are stored in override folder, these are files that override the ones that exists in *.bif's

let's say you don't like the custom Minsc portrait and thou wish is that Boo should be in the center or smth, so you put a files named NMINSCL.BMP NMINSCM.BMP NMINSCS.BMP in the override folder.

simply put, if in override exists the same file as packed in *.bif than the game will use the one from override.

I may have made a mistake but the general idea is as described above.

here, catch it: http://www.filesonic.com/file/2187361841/PAPER.WAV it's not perfect since it's 4 sec of silence but I'm lacking any soft to edit it further.

Brilliant! Added your file to the override folder and now it's silent :)
It doesn't have to be the same file size, and it doesn't have to be in all caps. Create a text file with nothing in it in the Override folder, rename it paper.wav, and all is good.

Gwai, thank you that's great. A few less paper cuts while I play :)

You are correct that it doesn't have to be the same size or in caps, however, your text file suggestion did not work for me on Win 7. Instead, I downloaded the free Goldwave sound program and created a 2 sec wave file of silence. Once finished I named it paper.wav, placed it in the override folder and it worked perfectly.

I just used notepad to create an empty file called "paper.wav" in the "\override" directory. Worked great using Win 7.
