Exactly what it says on the tin: I have the old 4-CD version of BG2:SoA installed on my netbook with quite a few mods and a saved game in chapter 5 that I'd rather not lose. I'd like to get Throne of Bhaal, and buying GOG's BG2 Complete seems to be the most convenient and cost-effective way, but does anyone know if I could install just the expansion from there onto my old game? I know I'd probably have to reinstall at least the mods that affect both SoA and ToB, but would I lose my saved game in the process?

I don't think you can. I believe the installer doesn't allow you to install ToB without installing SoA. Not sure about the mods though.
You need to replicate exactly which mods were installed on your previous game. Looking in the program directory and reading the .debug files should give you this information.

However, be warned version may matter. Installing latest tactics when the saved game had an earlier version may crash your game.

I would advise against it. You're always better off starting from scratch, installing the mods you want and starting a new game.
