I just downloaded & installed Baldur's Gate 2 Complete on my new laptop and it seems to work fine other than the fact that I can't get it to go full screen. It just shows in a small window in the center of my screen. I read a couple of other threads on here about similar issues but the recommended fixes won't work for me.

What steps can i take to resolve this issues?

Use the wide screen mod found here

Run the executable file and direct it to your BG 2 directory. It should automatically start the mod setup.

If you encounter any problems please post.

What graphics card have you got, & what operating system?

I'll give that a try. Thanks!

Intel Graphics 4400(Not a high powered gaming machine by any means but that should be enough for this shouldn't it?)

Windows 8

"Run the executable file and direct it to your BG 2 directory. It should automatically start the mod setup."

Does it matter what # I input for the X Coordinate as long as it's higher than 641? Any random # will do? If so, what's the point of this step? Just curious.

I would set the X and Y coordinates to the native resolution of your monitor. This step determines what resolution BG 2 will be displayed at.

Let me put it another way. Check and see what resolution your system is currently using.

This Youtube video covers how to change the resolution of your computer in Windows 8. Follow the steps and you'll see what the resolution is currently set to.

Once you know the current resolution of your system, enter that resolution into the widescreen mod.

For Example:

The current resolution of my system is 1440 x 900.

I would enter 1440 as the X and 900 as the Y.

I hope that answers your question. Post if you run into any problems.

It's not the power so much as the driver options.
Intel graphics cards, particularly win 8 is very limited.

Just to be sure, have you got as far as the dungeon?
because the previous screens are never full screen.

Or do you have a very small window?

Does pressing Ctrl & Alt & F11 change the scaling options.
It worked. I've got it full screen. The text is tiny but it's full screen so I'll be happy for now.

I've not made it to the dungeon yet. Just got to city.

Thank You

If your using the widescreen mod & playing with a resolution that is too high (writing & Avatars too small), you should think about changing it before you get too far in, because you can't change the resolution mid game.

Make sure you use a resolution that your screen can display.

BG2 starts in a dungeon.

Your welcome.

I posted in another thread and it turns out there is a GUI mod for BG 2 that can increase text size. Credit goes to Olnorton for pointing this out.

You can find the W_Gui mod here.

Unfortunately, the installation instructions recommend that this mod be installed BEFORE the widescreen mod. You would have to start over with a fresh install.

I haven't used this mod myself so I can't say if it has any compatibility issues. The mod is also still in beta form.

If you decide to use it, please post and let us know how it goes.

If you want to try it & you installed the widescreen mod last, you can just uninstall the widescreen mod, install the GUI mod & then reinstall the widescreen mod making sure you choose the same resolution as before.
If you choose a different resolution, then you will have to start a new game.

Personally, I prefer just to play at a lower resolution, as the bigger text with the GUI mods don't always fit in the boxes & you still have very small avatars.
I think I'll just continue with the text size as it is. Unfortunately I've got a new issue where the game gets stuck on the mage Book screen for my main character. I try to click on another button and it momentarily goes to that screen but then immediately goes back to the mage book. I've tried everything I can think of but the only way I can get out of it is to click on the save button then very quickly press quit before it jumps back to the mage book. Even once I get to the screen where I can save or quit it doesn't help me get back in the game where I can play it. If I quit and come back into the game it is still stuck on the mage book. I think this game, an the character I took the time to create is a lost cause but if anyone has any ideas on how to get back to a playable state please let me know.

I know Shadow Of Amn starts in a dungeon but I began playing Throne of Bhaal initially and that starts outdoors.

There is BG 2 Fixpack that was created to fix bugs that the official patches didn't fix. You can find the fixpack here.

There is also a BG 2 Essential Mods thread you can find here. The thread explains how to play BG 1 and BG 2 as one game through BGT or EasyTuTu. BGT and EasyTuTu are not required and should only be used after you have researched the benefits and problems associated with each one.

The thread also lists several commonly used mods for BG 2.

I hope this helps.

Just for clarity, there is an error in the above statement: TuTu is for BG1 only. It allows to play BG1 in the BG2 engine. Only BGT incorporates both games in one.
