Hickory: Guys, I wish I could help you with regard to Android/GemRB, but I have no knowledge of either. What I can do, however, is say that this surely must be a mod (BGT) issue. I will point you to this old post over at Gibberlings, where Avenger states that starting XP is moddable in GemRB. Also see the bottom link in that forum.
So, it looks like this issue between BGT and GemRB goes back to 2009 and hasn't been fixed yet? Ouch... And yes, it sounds like files can be altered, but also sounds like the alterations (at least in the thread linked) caused other breaks.

Well, I think I'll mostly just stick to playing BGT on my laptop/desktop. I'll probably just play vanilla on my tablet, maybe with Fixpack and Unfinished Business being the only mods. I'll have to re-create my character, but GateKeeper works for that. For my main, I'm using the half-elf Fighter/Mage character from the official Baldur's Gate Strategy Guide and just use GateKeeper to make her stats match. No other tweaking allowed, and I don't even use the actual walkthrough in the game.

Thanks for the links, Hickory! =)

It is proving slightly bothersome, I'll grant you. I can't help thinking about BG:EE luring me with it's siren song promise of it-just-works over there on the Android app store. But then there's a part of me that grits it's teeth and say, 'I have paid for it once on CDs and once on GOG, I'm not paying for the blasted thing a third time! Doggone it!'

At least you have that option. With the Kindle, if it's not on the Amazon Store or from a third-party store, I can't get it. I haven't checked BG:EE recently, but it wasn't on the Amazon Store last time I checked. And, yes, I also have it on CD (given to me), DVD/CD (bought the 4-in-1 box set) and GOG, so I'm also hesitant to pay again for the EE.

Edit: It's apparently only available from the Google Play store, so no dice for KFHD unless I want to root it. So, I think I'll stick to vanilla on GemRB for now. That should still work. Probably get that set up some time today.

Well, I tried taking it up with the developers but there wasn't much help to be had, I'm sorry to say.

Well, that bites. I've pretty much given up on it for the time being as I've started focusing more on Divinity Original Sin - my BGT party has been languishing outside of Bereghost for the better part of two weeks now, heh. I also just picked up StarCraft II, but I'm holding off playing that for now until I finish D:OS.

Ha, I've been carefully avoiding just that, as I figured it might put the older games a bit in the shadows :-D I'm going to go ahead and try playing it with the limitations of the android version. I'm probably going to be hitting that pause button like it's a tick or something...

I've been posting a running account of my first play through in the D:OS forum. Spoilers are in that thread though, so if you want a "virgin" play through, you may want to avoid it past the first few posts... =)

may seem like a downer for all the hard work mentioned on this thread, but I ended up buying the EE from the play store... was holding out hope that the EE would show up on GOG someday, and I'd probably still buy it if it showed up...

I pretty much gave up playing it on my Kindle as they (the EE games) apparently have issues playing on the Amazon tablet from what I've read on the forums. I did get BG1EE and BG2EE on a sale here and then IWD1EE when it arrived. Should they do a PSTEE and IWD2EE, I'll likely end up getting those as well. I'm just an IE junkie, heh.

Why not just buy IWD and BG from the Play STore? XD I have. I've been playing BG on my android phone from the store.

In my case, I have a Kindle Fire HD with no access to the Play Store, no BG or IWD on the Amazon Store, and apparently there are issues running them on the KFHD anyway (according to the BGEE forums). So, GemRB is the only way I can play it. It's a pain, but it works... sort of...
