brotherfrank: I'm fairly confident you can drop in new mods in most cases, at least with the ones I had.
Basically Bigworld downloaded the various mods but didn't seem to install them, I only realized this at the copper inn where I should have met various new NPCs.
Only when I checked the BGII folder did I notice loads of exec files which I promplty ran 1 by 1, went back into my game and the new NPCS were there.
After running BiG through the GUI, did you launch "BiG World Install.bat" in your BG II directory ? For me, this installed all of the mods I selected through the GUI in the correct order.
@weirdboy: Thanks for the report! Do you have to play with a CD, or can you continue with just creating the text file ?
I kept running into difficulties with getting things going, and finally just gave up and decided to reinstall both games and run EasyTutu (which is known to work) to play BG1 in the BG2 engine, and then I also installed the widescreen mod so it looks better and is easier to play on my laptop. I started playing last night and so far everything is working well.

I actually haven't played either one before, so I decided to just scale back my ambitions and play it as is for the most part.

gday i just installed big world but its big an takes awhile mind u i'm on my kick around laptop an old ibm thinkpad r40e running xp

This is for the GoG Versions of BG-TotSC, BG2-SoA-ToB

Best advice with this start it before bed then check and continue before work/school/back
to bed as it install times are different it can take from 1 hour to a day

BG - installed x:\BI\Baldurs Gate
V1.3.5521
saved game made normal and quick

BG2 - installed x:\BI\BGII - SoA
V2.5.26498
I've had to make a file x:\BI\BGII - SoA\CD5\movies
Then copy 25movies.bif from x:\BI\BGII - SoA\data\Movies to the new file
Make BG2-ToBPatchReadMe.txt in x:\BI\BGII - SoA (it doesn't need any txt in the file it's only
for verification) thanx SamuraiJackJr for linking me to weirdboy's post
saved games made normal and quick Both SoA and ToB

Ok now i'm reinstalling it big world: recommanded and install.bat: standard
now lets see if it works without a cd see ya's in afew hours

well 9 1/2 hours (i'm on a slow laptop so remember that faster machines
will do this faster) and its all good work with no need for cd's or what not
well worth the time.

Is that what I was meant to do? Doh! Really should have read the FAQ xD
Will do it that way from now on, but I got the Tyris Flare (am a BIG golden axe fan :D) mod and the party banter mod working so was content enough with that for now.

@ Uereg This is why it's best imo to do a custom install of what mods you want.
The default install puts in all sorts of mods you might not want (in my case I couldn't care less about extra areas and quests, vanilla game is enough for me atm so cutting those mods off meant bigworld took 2 hours) so it's best to do custom install and pick ones you want, the mods are color coded depending on if they are recommended or advanced anyways ;)
yer if u do the basic u get bgt and bg fix's i was just saying what i chose but other then that the rest is how i got it to work without the cd check but for any one thinking about BGT i rate it char move alot faster for starters so that speeds it up a bit.

Weather u want just BGT or a butt load of mods too u should try it
I can get to the part where is is supposed to start the trilogy and this happens...

[Setup-BGT.exe] WeiDU version 22400
[Setup-BGT.exe] Using scripting style "BG2"
Using Language [English]

Installing [Baldur's Gate Trilogy - Core]
Creating 1 directory
Copying 1 file ...
Copying and patching 1 file ...
Copying and patching 1 file ...
Copying 1 file ...

It just hangs on copying that 1 file.

How long did it hang ? It takes quite a while to run (2 - 10 hours).
Are you Windows 7/Vista or XP ? If not on XP, did you install the games outside of the Program Files directory structure ?
Figured it out, had to manually enter the directory

I know this is going to probably qualify as an amazingly poor question, but do you have to have Baldur's Gate in order for BWP to function properly? I'd prefer not to have to go back and buy it again (played it years ago). I know Big World Setup certainly isn't letting me install anything without a valid BG1 directory.

You do not need to have BG1.
Per the instructions guide:
BG2 only: If you want to run a BG2 installation only, write a minus (-) into the BG1 field. In this case, all BGT- and BG1-mods will be removed from the selection.

Afterwards, when you run BiG World Install.bat you will need to select the option for BG2 only.
Big thanks to this thread, I got stuck on the movies.bif file thing as well, thanks for the idea to edit the install.bat file.

Just started the install and I'll leave it alone over night, but I'm kinda worried that it'll stuff up while I'm away as I had SO many problems trying to get this up and running.

Right now it's just saying 'processing fixes for BGT'

Oh well, here's hoping all works out

Not sure how likely this is to get a response, seeing how old it is. But I hit the hang for copying that file too. I left it running overnight and it was still hung there.

Anyone know which directory had to be "manually entered", and how?
Well, I just lost patience after several failed attempts and re-installs. Ditched the whole thing and went with the "conservative modder's guide" instead of using Big World.

I've never played Baldur's Gate 1 before, it's pretty fun so far. :)

you need to input the BG1 install directory, since they added the new installer that handles the whole installation the question for BG1 directory doesn't appear so it confuses a lot of people.

btw, you can still install BWP by the old way, using the *.bat file, though it's far more complicated to select specific components of the mod you wish to install.
Yeah, I had the BG1 directory entered in the new installer, but it still froze on copying that 1 file. The installer was very tempermental too, it froze up on me multiple times and checking for updates with it didn't work at all.

I tried the *.bat file too, which seemed promising at first. But during the install portion it got into a loop of errors so I had to shut it down.

I think it's better for me to start small and just install a couple of mods to make it more playable on a modern computer, rather than trying to throw in all the extras that Big World adds in. The game's working at 1280 x 768 for me now, at least.
