Wahoo nvm I fixed it!!!!!!!

BG2 Fixpack fixed it, but if that wasn't installed then the only way to fix it is to use Shadow Keeper. Note that even when he's level 17+ it unfortunately only repairs it to 2x backstab!!!!!

The instructions I tried to follow confused the hell out of me. I'm going to re-write them so that the next guy looking this up doesn't scratch his head

1) Download the "Stalkers Losing Backstab Ability Fix" from www.baldurdash.org/fixes.html
2) Copy "SPCL332.SPL" into your Black Isle/BG2/override folder.
3) Open up Shadow Keeper, load the correct game with faulty Valygar, select him, then find a tab to the right called "Affects"
4) Duplicate the first affect in the list of the Type "0x0113"
5) Edit the duplicated affect so it looks like this

Type: 0x00000107
Param 1: 1
Param 2: 0
Flags: 0x00000009
Time: 0
Probability: 100
Target:0x00000001
Resource 3: SPCL332
6) Save the game and enjoy backstabbing with Valygar again.

Also note that while he can backstab again, it doesn't show back up on his Record.

4) pick the one that says "class ability" in type
5) click duplicate so you'll have two "class ability" affects
6) pick one of these two (in this case let's pick the lower one) and make the suggested edits to it.
7) close and save the edits and load the edited game to see if valygar has backstab again.

this is how i interpreted the instructions, not 100% sure about them though.

needless to say backup your save first so at least you don't lose more than just the backstab in the process.

Alright I figured it out and wrote out my own instructions because I feel like the guy who wrote them in 2001 really wasn't specific enough.

Hopefully this eliminates any confusion for anybody who has this problem in the future.

Weird... it appears that it's not even a full fix. He should be backstabbing at 3x but it says double...also another strange thing after I did this is that Valygar can't be hasted now................... What the hellllllllllll

Funny how they screwed up the fix. That's a large bug I would of rather avoided. So if this happens to you, even if you end up fixing it you're stuck with a 2x backstabber maximum. Silly... the 3x really is alot better lol
