iwuguy: Okay, good insight into the widescreen mod.

The last thing I can't decide is if I should go with EasyTutu just for the IE2 differences. Again, if I were to only play once, should I stick with the original engine, or go with the changes made in IE2?

Thoughts?
Play the vanilla game in VGA until you get to The Friendly Arm Inn.
Then install Easy TuTu & the mods I mentioned, start a new game & play through to the Friendly Arm Inn again.
If you don't think the TuTu game is vastly superior, you can go back & continue your Vanilla game, which TuTu leaves untouched.

No, it does not. Spawns are made in much larger groups in TuTu. Virtually every creature (Imoen included) has an experience score for killing in TuTu that it does not in vanilla. Export a character with items in vanilla and import into TuTu and virtually all of your items run the risk of being lost -- TuTu replicates most items with an underscore prefix (arow01 in vanilla, _arow01 in TuTu for example). Some colours in TuTu are completely screwed up (green water, white Ankheg armour etc). Those are just a few examples... there are many more. It is not the same game. It is not left untouched.

Hickory: No, it does not.
Yes it does.

When you install TuTu, it creates a whole new directory for itself.
Your Vanilla BG1 directory & your saved games are completely untouched.
So like I said. If you don't think the TuTu game is vastly superior, you can go back & continue your Vanilla game.
Well, right now my hand is being forced as my BG2 GOG install is full of visual artifacts on start up (opening videos are fine, but I can't read the text once I gain control). Since EasyTutu and BGT run using the BG2 engine, it always gives me these artifacts when I want to start playing BG1.

So until that gets fixed (I have a question on the board about it right now), I'll be in a holding pattern.

Thanks for all of the advice so far!

Oh, I see what you meant. I thought you meant that the TuTu installation was identical to BG1 vanilla. In that case, yes I agree that the vanilla installation is untouched.
One small mod you should install anyway :

I would be very wary of this Beta fix pack. I uninstalled it because it breaks the tutorial: Jondalar, the warder who spars with your character in the courtyard, is supposed to be a safe person to attack at sparring time, but this fix pack makes any resident of Candlekeep in line of sight (Reevor etc.) go permanently hostile as soon as you attack back -- I didn't give it any further airing; that was enough to make me uninstall it.

To be fair, the site has a hotfix up for that specific issue now, suggesting that they fixed it and that may have been the only (major) bug introduced, as there aren't any other such fixes. If there are a large number of bugs, it would be rather unlikely that they only fixed the one which you encountered (though, admittedly, it would be the one which a lot of people would encounter first).

Please report any bug you might encounter using this fixpack here:

I didn't know about this specific bug, I can't even remember the last time I played through the tutorial ;)

Thanks for pointing that out. I missed that hotfix, somehow. Next time I start a new game I will probably give this fix pack a proper airing, then.
