So I've installed the mod which lets you play the original game in the BGII engine, which is supposed to "seamlessly integrate all games into one big megacampaign" - at least that's what it says in that sticky over there. This raised some questions I'd love if you could help me answer:

1. What happens to BGII NPCs when I finish the original? If I never duel-class Imoen in the original, would she just be a thief in BGII?
2. Is the level cap raised for the original? Can I get into lower-BGII levels of power in BG?
3. Can I install mods like Unfinished Buisness for BGII even if I already have a savefile for the original game? Or would it make my save incompatible?

Thanks in advance!

All of the NPCs carry over exactly as you have them in BG1, including their XP and stats. That is:
Imoen
Jaheira
Minsc
Viconia
Edwin

2. Is the level cap raised for the original? Can I get into lower-BGII levels of power in BG?
The level cap is not changed. In BG1 TotSC the cap is 161,000, which is about what SoA starting cap is.

3. Can I install mods like Unfinished Buisness for BGII even if I already have a savefile for the original game? Or would it make my save incompatible?
When you install BGT you absolutely MUST install with virgin clean installations of both BG1 (especially) and BG2. Do not use other saved games, because of differences in area file names, scripts etc. You are just asking for trouble.

Really? So does the game just kinda go on after I defeat Seravok or do I actually have to click "import character" or anything? Do the portraits change, at least? I prefer the BGII ones.

Also, assuming I dump Jaheira when she's level 4 and I never added Edwin, would they be lvl 4 / 1 in BGII? That's weird.

I guess this means I'll have to duel-class Imoen... God knows what I'm gonna do while I wait for her levels to balance. I guess I'l need to find a good thief and dismiss Khalid and Jaheira. Any recommendations?

No, you do not have to dual class Imoen if you choose not to, but for story purposes, she has to be able to cast a spell as your party emerges from Chateaux Irenicus. If you can suspend disbelief, then... There is no shortage of thieves in BG2, though none of them who are permanent are anywhere near as good as Imoen would be as pure thief.
