I bought BG from GOG mainly to play Tales of the Sword Coast, but so far I haven't managed to get into it again, being accustomed to the much more enjoyable reading window and fonts of BG2 and PS:T.

I read BGTutu (or BGT?) allow you to use BG2's interface while playing BG1, but I only have the German retail copy of BG2 and have no intention of buying the game another time, just for using its interface. Do you think installing the German retail version would do the trick, too? Or would the differences in language/versions cause issues?

In the latter case, is there a way to change BG's font and GUI to something more pleasing to the eyes?

It would probably work, but will be overwritten by English .tlk file.

So you would get either English or German/English game.

I only want to play BG1 in English, with the interface of BG2, no second playthrough of BG2 is planned. So that would be okay, I guess. I might give it a try then, thanks.

Related to BGT

The above location is kinda not updated from a very long time, but it has some reference which mentions that German version of the game may be compatible.
I played BGTutu using the English (GOG) version of BG1 and an older German retail copy. I didn't experience any problems playing through BG1. The game is entirely in English, no german/english language mishmash. It works just fine :)
