So, I am now rereading Baldur's gate the book series to see what characters might show up from the game. I've seen a few of my favorites so far.

Was also wondering for any BG fan if anybody knew anymore books about Abdel(The Main character of the book series)

Best source I could find:
http://forgottenrealms.wikia.com/wiki/Abdel_Adrian

Looks like Abdel is only listed in the 3 Baldur's gates books. There are some others (some with cameo's, others with bigger roles) who have appeared in the Forgotten Realms books and lore.

I know Abdel's Lover appears a few times in FR Lore. But the rest, I'm not sure about.
Rereading? You mean you've read them once, and are willing to again? O_O

Seriously, from everything I've heard and what little I read from the beginning of the first book, those books are utter trash.
as a kid i read the Forgotten Realms: Avatar Trilogy and it was quite a nice surprise buying Baldur's Gate on a whim one day and discovering that the books were like a semi-prequel to the events of the game.. At least with respect to the whole "Bhaal (among many other Gods) being banished by Ao to mortal form for stealing the tablets of fate" or some such thing.

I am a fan of The Forgotten Realms, and enjoyed the books that came before it. :)

Hence the BG2 expansion being called the Throne of Bhaal and the Bhaal spawn. Man, that avatar trilogy and the sequels with Cyric trying to take on more portfolios of the other gods was epic. I'm sad I sold all my Forgotten Realms books :(

Traitor! How dare you call yourself Baldur's Gate Fan lol Just kidding

Well. He wanted the power as a human thief. Even had him a blood sucking sword
I hate myself for it, I had quite the DND fantasy book collection but alas needed to sell them off to clear some space.

I know what you mean. My mom owns Dragonlance, Ravenloft, Greyhawk, and Forgotten Realms. I think all Four are DND Settings.

that trilogy in particular was one i could re-read many times and get a nostalgiabomb, so i've held on to my copies for years now .. I should really pick up the 4th and 5th books that cover the whole Cyric going insane and multi-tasking the evilest of diety roles thing. Sounds interesting.

I don't have the Cyric The Mad set lol but I didn't like Cyric in the Avatar series
I didn't even realize there were books that had anything to do with Baldur's gate other than the adaptations!!!! O.o haha
Hey guys,

I still have this game in my queue to eventually finish and happened across this thread. Are these the books that should be treated as a "prequel" to BG1 and BG2?

Shadowdale
Tantras
Waterdeep
Prince of Lies
Crucible: The Trial of Cyric the Mad

If so, are there any others that should be read before playing?

Thanks.

Yeah. those come before the games. Its a Cycle known in Faerun(Forgotten Realms) as the Time of Troubles when the Gods walked the earth.

Other then those, No, I don't think there is anymore.
