This thread makes me laugh.

Fun fact : When I was playing steve jackson / ian livingstone "choose your own adventure" books, I was always exploiting the "infinite re-roll" exploit. That is, instead of directly writing down my character sheet with max stats (12, 12, 24 or something), I was actually re-rolling my dice until they game me the desired results, and only then would i write down these max stats.

Not cheating, see.

At all.
The dragons and Kangaxx were a real breeze! I did not even need +3 or higher weapons, since the summons, priest spells and backstabs with celestial fury/belm dual obliterated all "hardest" enemies at an instant... Of course, i imported in to my main TWO rings of Gaxx after beating the damn thing and exporting character in multi. I am dead certain that irenicus will be cannon fodder to those 3, handmade, children of Bhaal. Next thing i am going to try, is a normal, totally cheeseless, fresh new playthrough with kensai/thief, dualled at 13, having 2-handed sword and quarterstaff grandmastery, for using Carsomyr +6 and backstabbing with the Staff of the Ram +6. Trying to roll without tricks 18 to all, and 5 to wisdom and charisma. Maybe Tob will be played as intended, with only one exploit this time: Tanner's endless xp!

So far, I am too lazy to go pick up and carry around all 6 or 8 Tomes. It would mean pretty much playing through close to the entire plot and then exporting. I imagine with crazy stats, it must be kind of fun to play or relieve stress.

Question: With 25 Constitution, how much beer does your character have to drink before getting drunk?

You just reminded me that all this time, i never spent a single gold coin for drinking... -_-

Reading your posts, especially this one reminded me of a guy back when I used to play pen and paper role playing in the military. We had a group of regulars that played often, and 2 or 3 of us would occasionally rotate the DM'ing. I would say our play style was definitely more toward the story side of things. Leveling up and scoring ultra powerful items just wasn't that much of a concern, because the adventures themselves were "gripping".

Then this guy I mentioned transfers to our unit and turns out he plays too, and wants to join. Fine. He also wants to play his characters, namely his two high level fighters that the guy wont shut up bragging about. Well these fighters were unbelievably powerful, all decked out, like some DM just handed him the books and said "Just pick what ever items you want". One fighter was leveled high teens and the other was leveled low 20's. The guy bragged and bragged about how awesome they were, and much better they were than any characters we had.

Turned out the guy couldn't actually play well at all. But that story is beside the point and told only if requested.

Quite. That's the thing with cheese lovers and cheaters: they loose sight of HOW to play without their crutches, if they ever knew in the first place.

Consider it requested :)

Also, I remember reading about something like that on a different forum. I seem to recall that it turned out that he'd been setting encounters against himself, then saying 'I kill it' and giving himself the appropriate xp and loot, over and over again...
Well I can elaborate more later (I'm on my phone at work) but the short version is I challenged his two fighters against my one fighter/mage and killed them both in about 8-10 rounds without getting so much as a scratch.

Ok, now for the Rest of the Story...

But first a couple of disclaimers,
1. It was almost 25 years ago, so my recollection of specifics and details has grown dim.
2. It is unknown to me whether the Third Party DM fudged anything, as he was part of our original group and certainly wasn't favorable towards Mr. Brag (I'll call him). He DID do his job well enough that Mr. Brag had no gripes when it was over (besides losing).
3. This story actually happened, but don't forget the reason I'm telling it. CHEESE NEVER WINS.

The Cast

Mr. Brag's two ungodly (but laughably) powerful fighters. About 18th and 23rd levels. Both human, I think.
My elven female fighter/magic-user. 10/11th level, respectively.
AD&D first edition books/rules

The Scene setup...

We were put in a empty Roman style coliseum. To be "fair" to his fighters, we agreed to start fairly close to each other (about 12-15ft. maybe?). Flat-footed, nothing drawn. When the DM said go, our actions were written down for each round and given to the DM. Once given, no changes were allowed. The DM then explained out loud to both what we saw, heard, what was happening, etc. It went pretty much like this...

GO!

His first move was of course to draw swords, run at me attacking... right into darkness. I had fired off a quick darkness spell, so his guys can't see a thing. They're flailing around with no idea where I am. I dimension door up into the seating. This guy still had his fighters flailing around in the dark, hoping to hit something (I told you he wasn't a very good player). So much for the first couple of rounds.

Round three sees me launch a project image spell to the spot I had stood at the onset of this demonstration of his mighty warriors, who, by the way, hadn't cleared the darkness by the end of round three. Really? So...I had an idea while waiting for these fools to come out and round 4 to begin...

Round four starts and Dumb and Dumber make it out just in time to see my fighter/mage just finishing up a fire shield spell upon myself (well, the image).

Now, the next few rounds kind of run together because it was mostly straight melee, but I do remember the sheer glee that now resided on Mr. Brag's face. HE HAD ME NOW! He's wailing on me with sheer delight, oblivious (or ignoring) the fact that he's dying (from the fire shield spell)and, NO BLOOD coming from my wounds (the guy was dense I tell ya). The fire shield was taking it's toll on his fighters, but the dummy would not stop chopping at me. I made it look good though, like he was tearing me up good to keep the deception as real as I could.

Somewhere around the 8-10th round. he battered my image to wherever destroyed images go. VICTORY!!! OH WAIT! Even HE caught on there was no body. They were low on hit points from the fire shield spell, and I was ready. I didn't want to give him time to heal back up so I immediately started blasting them with fireballs. In the end, I think it only took two. I don't even think his guys made it to the edge of the arena. Just two roasted ducks in tin pots laying in the dirt floor of the arena, smoking.

Mr. Brag took the defeat of his two mighty champions fairly well, actually. I was surprised. Whatever was going on in his head didn't show, much. Little did I know what lay ahead for me because of that day, which led to one of the toughest spots I had ever been in in the game. But that, is another story.

You probably cannot remember the characters' real names, so we can call them Caldo and Krumm. ;)

True. I can't even remember the actual guy's name playing them. The DM's name was Anthony (Tony) though.
I have no clue how importing/exporting a character is considered legit power gaming..

Legit power gaming would be something like.... leaving candle keep, then adventuring to beregost solo... doing some quests, in and around the area... getting to level 4-5, and then picking up the party, to start around that level....

anything that has you exporting a character and starting over is not power gaming, that is cheating.. If you wan't to do that it is fine, it is your game, But please do not confuse the two.

I wrote it, more years ago than i care to admit. THIS Is the REAL CHEESE!!!
Personally, I like glitches in games, especially when they are funny or strange.

Here are two of my favorites (both involving Polymorph):

1. Have a character polymorph, then cast Dispel Magic on that character. Alternatively, in BG2 you can put Shocking Grasp in a sequencer and use that after polymorphing, then attack. You retain your form, but are now using your normal manufactured weapons. Say hello to a sling wielding wolf, or a flail wielding spider!

2. Squeeze a character into a small space, then have that character polymorph into something big. The character will not fit in the space, and therefore will be sent to the nearest space she *does* fit. If that space is on the other side of a wall, the player is now on the other side of the wall. (This is called "polymorph teleporting".) In BG2, this allows you to skip nearly all of Spellhold, including all the critical plot elements that happen there.
