I played BG1 and BG2 before but never modded it. I have a new computer but the various guides somewhat overwhelm me as I have no idea what they do. On the conservative modder's guide, it talks about a GUI? but when I tried to see what exactly that does, the webpage is not in English. Will GOG offer a Mod Spotlight for this game considering how many mods there are? Any help similar to the Mod Spotlight that was given on Planescape Torment would be much appreciate. Thanks in advance for any help.
The GUI is the interface for the game, basically the buttons and the border around the edge. The GUI mod I believe makes it so that the GUI works with the higher resolutions, since with BG1 it doesn't scale up too well and can end up with parts of it all over the place.

Dunno if GOG will do a spotlight on it all, hopefully they will, but in the meantime if you're stuck with anything or need answers to something people here are usually very helpful.

I'd suggest looking into either BG TuTu or BGT mods for BG1 personally, they will basically run the Baldur's Gate game in Baldur's Gate 2's engine, so that you get all the enhancements the second game had for both. TuTu will just run BG1 in NG2's engine, while BGT tries to actually combine both games into one game, so that when you finish BG1 you will go straight into BG2 without having to import and with the characters you have in your party, though I haven't used that one personally (I prefer TuTu).
I actually prefer the BG2 only mods, I specifically am starting the Nalia romance mod, for example, and unfinished business and the quest packs made me buy the games from GOG.

I have good memories of Tactics mod, though it has been described as a pure nightmare.(I did cheese my way through it... :P )

Imoen Romance mod may not be to your taste, and I frankly disliked the solafein mod.

If you love sidequests like I do, you may consider my list.

fixpack and tweak pack, quest pack and unfinished business.

I like ascention, and spell 50 and item upgrade.

Nalia romance mod, the G3 anniversary mod.

And of course the greatest mod in the history of the universe,

JERRY ZINGER!!!

Ok, so I wrote one of the scenes. :) You may blame me for the "Knights who wear Naughty Lingerie and the Women who love them." But I will NOT be held responsible for Latex Gnomes.

+1 for this. Awesome guide.
Thanks for the help, but I think I will avoid mods since I spent all of last night installing and checking to see if they installed correctly, but I keep having visual glitches. I followed the instructions of that page and it had graphical problems, and I tried the other one Conservative Modder's Guide but it kept crashing. Thanks again for the help.

That's weird. Don't just give up though. Tell us what kind of glitches you were experiencing. They might easily be fixable.
The BG / BG2 / IWD / IWD2 mod guide would look basically identical to the PS:T one because they're made by the same community. They all consist of:

Fixpack
Tweakpack
Unfinished Buisness
Widescreen Mod
Okay I resinstalled and tried it again, this time trying Weidu rather than the Easy Tutu, anyways it works now though there are some minor glitches when I move the mouse cursor over areas in that the image "shimmers" for lack of a better word like it was trying to shift to new colors. I had to put the software alternatives to using the nvida card found in graphics options of the game menu. This got rid of alot of the anomalies where there would be black squares where my character was right next to and it was not the image that was supposed to be there (the squares were not fog of war as I had passed through them already). There are two questions that I have, is there any way to make the buttons bigger and is there any fix for the shimmer effect that occurs near my mouse button? The widescreen mod is currently set at my monitor's resolution of 1200 x 900. Though to be honest I feel better with the mod having lower resolution such as 800x600(native game resolution). Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.
edit: nevermind :)
