I've been following this EE and since I've never played BG series before (I bought them here in Christmas) I will wait until both BG 1 and BG 2 are released as EE packages. However, I don't like that beamdog client with DRM.

Is there any hope that their version will wind up here? You do get spoiled with DRM issues while being here for a while (which is all good of course ;)

Well it would be for Beamdog's own benefit if they would allow the game to be sold here. I'm sure most of the people on this site love the series and would instantly buy it.

Oster has said they'll try to include the possibility of playing BGEE independently from the Beamdog client. It's also very likely that we'll have a boxed edition of the game.

Why do they bother with a boxed edition? Won't that just increase an unnecessary cost.

I believe they want it to be some sort of collector's edition or another with a cloth map and whatnot. I'm personally glad they're doing it, and if the cost's not too outrageous I'll be getting myself one of those.

I'd like to see a couple of things done in the baldurs gate 2 enhanced edition.

I know this first thought probably spits on the 2nd edition rules, but here are some thoughts.

Firstly, give a purpose to using some of the specialist mage types outside of diviner, conjurer, necromancer, and illusionist (outside of going for a purely rp experience). I was thinking maybe making it so higher level spells (especially the level 8 and 9 spells) are only available to specific magic specialists. I guess they would have to add higher level spells to give some variety for specialist mages, but I think it would be an interesting change to the game. Also, I guess general mages/ wild mages would have to be restricted in how many level 8 or 9 spells they are able to memorise. Given sorcerors limitations already I don't feel they'd need any changing. Overall mages are overpowered in the game, but some of the specialist types really should be made to be more playable.

I was also thinking getting rid of some items that you can get early in the game might be an idea (like the ring of charisma and the glasses of identification), or at least delaying until you'd normally be able to get them. As we all know the ring of charisma makes putting anything to charisma a pretty pointless for the characters who don't already have to. Also it diminishes the role that bards can play in a party (which I would argue is also hurt by the numerous glasses of identification you can get between both SOA and TOB - which I know is at least 2).

Also I know I can use shadowkeeper for this, but it would be nice if they fixed the classes that have weird restrictions on them. Like how an elf can be a cleric or a mage, but not a cleric/mage (similarly a halfling can be a fighter or a cleric, but not a fighter/cleric).

Of course no one from the company remaking this game will ever see this most likely, but it would be interesting to see your take on what they could do to make the game even more enjoyable. Also if you could be merciful I'd appreciate it.

Since this is supposed to come out this summer, I'm wondering when will the reveal the release date.

These restrictions reflect the AD&D rules on which the games are based. The only AD&D core-rules race that can be a combination of any two of its classes (not counting human dual-classing) - and thus incidentally the only one that can be a cleric/thief - is the gnome.

@ydobemos Fair enough. I think in my rant I merely was questioning the game from a standpoint of a gamer rather than a standpoint of a D&D fan since I have never played the latter. I understand that these restrictions are a result of 2nd edition rules. But thanks for your response.

This coming from a 2nd Ed AD&D fan, even I think those kinds of restrictions are ridiculous. Granted, nonsensical and confusing rules are a large part of said ruleset's charm. I mean, saving throw versus breath weapon? Classic.

Weird, it worked fine for me.

Recently project lead Trent Oster has made it very clear on his Twitter feed that they have no plans to release BGEE on GOG, or anywhere else for the PC other than Beamdog. Apparently they are so concerned about piracy that the only solution they see is DRM.

Unfortunately, we know that most of the time DRM is not a solution to anything.

The Enhanced Edition should not end up like Diablo 3 DRM where even single player portions require constant internet. I am sure Developers will tweak BG2 for the good since they have promised to retain the charm of the original, if only better to suit modern computers.

the only fear ruins my dream is staying "always online". I pray at least single player is out of DRM shit and that's the only wish have put forward to them. Bless BG2 without DRM ..lol
