When I start Baldur's Gate up my screen goes black but the computer is responsive and I can still hear the sound of the game playing. I am wondering if anyone can help me fix this problem.

Make sure you run BG as "Administrator" otherwise it'll hang forever. Black screen thing happened to me ever since I added some custom portraits to the BG folder.
