Elmofongo: Quick Question:

There are no Dragons in Baldur's Gate 1?

How can it be a Dungeons and Dragons game with Dragons :P
'Dungeons & Dragons' is a fantasy (war/role)gaming monica, not a literal title of content -- although Dragons do exist in the virtual world, in BG1 the protagonist simply doesn't encounter them, which is just as well, as it would be certain death (assuming hostilities). But I think you knew that, right? :)

Just a little dissipointed that the first great D&D RPG in video game form lacks Dragons.

BG2 has a couple dragons, if it makes you feel better. :)

I am already aware of that in case you do not know.
Apart from the obvious instant death scenario had we come across a dragon in BG1, given the XP limitation, I'm glad there were none. There were probably a touch too many in BG2, and it becomes a little weird when you run into dragons that often. I'm not saying it was overdone, but perhaps a bit too many for (my) comfort.

All right now I need help, I meet this guy named Meilum in Firewine Bridge and he has something I am looking for, The Gauntlet of Weapon Expertise which gives 1+ THAC0 and 2+Damage.

So how do I get it out of him with being evil about it?

You have to tell him you've never heard of him (he brags), and then chide him about his assertion that he's the best swordsman, and ask him to prove it. He will become hostile and attack you. No repercussions.
Huh, so that is a dialogue initiated combat, eh? Never knew that, I just happened to say those things because it made sense. Guess I was lucky then.

There is a fight in that area that was tough as nails first time I played the game. Couldn't hurt the tosser no matter what I did, more or less. Think we got him in the end, but barely survived. Later on I heard about a trick... Bit cheesy but it works.

Meilum is the best investment you can make when it comes to boosting damage for a fighter. I usually get those gauntlets for my main character asap and then get the same gauntlets the 2nd time for my 2nd melee npc at the bandit camp chest where the group of baddies is. With 2 characters wielding those its a good deal!

He is possible to beat at lvl 5 or 6 for my 2 man party.

Help, the Spider Queen in Cloakwood is a bitch, I have a 2 melee characters and 4 people using ranged weapons, 3 of them can use Cure Light Wounds spells, but no cure poisons and antidotes, and no offensive magic spells at all, and I am flatout broke with only 100 gold.

How to deal with this bitch spider with Sword Spiders that attack real fast?

Do you have any wands? You can get a Wand of Fire in the Ulcaster Ruins than can take out Centeol from range (Fireball). Also, 'grenade-like' potions can help (Oil of Fiery Burning etc.), and use the druid spell 'Entangle' -- spiders are immune to Web but not Entangle. Watch your flanks, because of the pathing in that lair. Have your melee fighters move 1 left and 1 right. Stinking Cloud will also help, but cast it away from your party. Do not have your party split up. Keep them at the entrance, so that your AoE attacks don't do friendly damage, and the pathing forces the spiders to face your placed melee fighters. Your cleric/druid will also have 'Slow Poison'. Set up your spell book before entering the lair.

I still have not gotten use to learning and gaining new magic spells, I have alot of scrolls but none of the magic users can memorize it for some reason.

Only wizards can learn new spells from scrolls.
For clerics & druids just press P & choose from those available.
Entangle is a level 1 druid spell & slow poison is level 2 cleric or druid.

Yeah, not all scrolls can be learned. Some are priest spells, which can only be used from the item slot like potions. If you right click on a scroll (with a wizard) and it doesn't have a 'Write Magic' button, then it's a priest spell. Some spell scrolls, like Stone to Flesh or Protection from Fire, can be used by anybody in that way, regardless of class.

A very important point to always remember about wizard spells is that, unless you have a mod that changes the rules, learning a wizard spell is not guaranteed. The higher the wizard's Intelligence, the higher the chance of learning it successfully. As you go through the game, you will come across potions like Potion of Genius, that raise your wizard's Intelligence temporarily, allowing them to learn spells with more confidence. Save such potions to use for learning higher level, and often very rare, spells.
