Can anyone out there suggest the 5 MUST HAVE Mods for this game?

Specifically if available I would LOVE a high resolution texture mod or D&D 3.5 Rule set Mod?
the purest in me says the first play through should be none...

I will say, add widescreen, it definatly makes the battles better.

Ive played it many times and with mods, but i even go back to vanila on occasion.. its worth the experiance.
There. BG2 rules, engine, banters and stuff like that

I do think there are any high resolution textures for the game since all areas are pre-rendered pictures and the sprites are 2D.

The only mod I know for 3.5 rules is Icewind Gate 2. It tries to convert BG2 to the IWD2 engine. It is in beta, unstable, and probably not supported.

I will not count Baldur's Gate Trilogy or BG1Tutu since they are requirements for some of these mods.

1.) BG1 Unfinished Business
2.) BG1 NPC Project
3.) Baldur's Gate Mini Quests & Encounters Modification
4.) BG1 Tweaks
5.) Sword Coast Stratagems

These are not the best 5 mods, there are dozen of mods out there, these are just the ones I would pick if I could only have 5 mods for BG1. The greatest part about these mods is that when installing you can choose which parts you want to install, you don't have to commit to every component.
hey quick Q, is the trillogy and tutu ment to work together? or is it one or the other?

these definatly seam interesting.. I wouldnt mind a few other recomendations over 5.. but seams like perhaps in the future ill give that combo a shot. Ive played the darkest day and dark side of the coast before, But i want to do a purist playthrough seeing its been so long sence i last traveled the sword coast.

It's one or the other. More or less, both BGT and Tutu do the same thing, but they don't work together.

Oh no. BGT actually does MORE, while tutu is great for purists
Ok.. ill bite, whats the main differences?

What a nice guy you are! tutu is a direct port, while BGT adds a few locations that directly connect BG1 and 2, joins the 2 maps together (you can't pass from BG2 to BG1 thou), and directly ports characters from BG1: minsc will have roughly the experience he ended BG1 with, if you didn't dual-class Imoen, she'll stay thief, if you did, she'll keep her spells, etc.
Hmmm that does sound intersting.. perhaps ill have to give it a try on my next play through..

this time im going back to back 1 and 2, no mods.. I havent played through them in soo long.. probably back before i started playing MMO's in 2003.. its great though, been so long i forgot soo much stuff, all the little things are cracking me up..

"Monteron, you are soo agrivating !! tis disturbing to my demeanor"

*edit, what happens if you say left minsc at lvl 3? or never picked up jaheria?

I'd pretty much rate those as the 5 best mods. Subtle, well written and high quality.

They automatically get bumped to the level they are supposed to be
Mind that when you play BG 1 in the BG2 engine, you need mods written for the BG2 engine. For Tutu for example, there are Tutu versions of BG1 UB, BG1NPC, BG MiniQuests and SwordCoast Stratagems, but you'll need to pick the BG2Tweaks mod (all tweaks for the BG2 game are automatically skipped).

BG1 Tweaks only works for BG1, not for Tutu. I'm not sure if the other mods mentioned have BG1 versions, I only played it once unmodded, than did all further campaigns in Tutu.

Read the readme's before installing a mod, to see if you've got the right version (many mods are compatible with both Tutu and Trilogy, BG2 Tweaks and SCS spring to mind, but some are Tutu-only or BGT-only).

Read the readme's for the mods also for mod compatibility and install order.
This is an easy functioning site for picking the right sort of mod for the right engine (and get a reasonably complete overview of everything that's out there as a bonus, beware of dead links though - some links are old and give a page not found message): http://modlist.pocketplane.net/index.php?ax=list&cat_id=97
