Do you have to install QuickTime for the game to run properly? I have noticed it is optional in the installer. Unselected it in installer options because I don't see how it would be needed. But in game after selecting 'New' it responds with a QT Windows error and proceeds to play the music - although nothing displays on the screen.

Researched it and some said it is necessary to play the game; others said it is not, but a full-screen running issue. They claim the .exe had to be modified to prevent that error and display properly.

Trial and Error would be the best solution, but not the best resolution. What did the GOG community do to get this game running as it should? And what options or modifications did you make to play the game as advertised, and which ones you did not? (Mainly the .exe options and or installing the pre-installer QuickTime).

All in-game cut-scenes are Quicktime movies. Your system probably just needs to be able to decode them, not necessarily with Quicktime installed, but it might be the easiest option.

I don't have it installed right now and the game runs flawlessly out-of-the-box.

That's good to hear the physical copies still work, however this is the GoG version purchased (aka Digital). Heard there were a lot of issues installing on newer operating systems due to the older QT used. Guessing the GoG version was modified to utilize the modern builds with the old.

I'll reinstall it with the Quicktime option selected. Hopefully that will do the trick, and I'll consider it resolved after play testing for a bit.

With "out-of-the-box" I meant the GOG version ;-)

The game is indeed modified to run on modern systems. GOG uses a separate launcher to start it and it comes with a file called qthook.dll and quicktime.qts, which seem to handle the movie playback. I don't know if they rely on the systems capability to decode the movies, but if so, you might need Quicktime or something similar.
As I've posted before, I don't have Quicktime installed right now (but VLC media player) and the in-game movies are playing.

Anyway, before trying something complicated, I'd just install the QT version that comes with the game and see if it works.

Selecting the Install Quicktime option did the trick. Been playing for about thirty minutes and all videos and gameplay seems to be displaying as it should. Some of options were quite amusing, especially antennae movement, but guess that was limitations of consumer PCs and high-end ones at the time.

Little disappointed another program has to be "maintained" to minimize security exploits, but the game seems worthwhile enough to keep it around. So far this is the only game (to my knowledge) in my GoG collection that requires it. But, have a strange suspicion the TEX Murphy games will need it as well.

When installing Bad Mojo with Galaxy, I always had a "QT Initialize error" and the videos wouldn't play.

I then used the "normal" GOG installer, which offers to install QuickTime. I did that, and then it worked.

(Windows 7).

That did the trick for me too! Still works in 2022 that way.

Oddly enough, i checked the files of the GOG Galaxy installation and the Quicktime dll file was in there, for some reason it just didn't activate i guess?

With the direct installer it just works no problem, all vids are playing normally and the game runs smoothly.

I'm a bit of a noob round here - what's the normal/direct GOG installer?

Hey dude I hope you found help. If not what they meant was to go to gog.com and download the installer from the website, by logging in and going to your games collection. I did it and the game works now. I excluded the QuickTime installation. And uninstalled any QuickTime I had on my system
