How come there are no manuals for Avernum 1 and 2?
There arent because I dont think they had them that early. They started manuals with Geneforge 1 and Avernum 3. If you require basics then Avernum 3 should provide the basis although 3 used weapon die for damage. If you require basic advice for stats and what they do, go here:

If I recall correctly, there is a manual of sorts within the game menu.

There are manuals of sorts within the games, well there is in Avernum 1 so I assume in 2 also.
You press F1 in game to get to the manual.
Ah yes, I found it. It's quite seamless really.

Yeah, but at least in Avernum 1, you have in game help, "tutorial", when you first encounter some thing, you get a tooltip saying what to do.

Also, on most game windows there is " ? " sign, when you click it, you will get additional, helpful information (for example how to make potions, etc)

I know the games aren't among the most user friendly ones, but when you come through "initial shock", it gets pretty easy to control the whole game

I like the fact, for example, that you don't have to look with your mouse for items on the ground. You press a few keys, and you have everything you need.

Have you tried to run Avernum 6 since making these changes???

I'm getting errors now trying to run Avernum 6 AND trying to uninstall. Am wondering if these changes are the cause of the problem???
WinHlp32.exe version has exactly the same content as in-game help so no difference really, but if you want check the other topic for link to program.

Other extra info is the same as readme/how to play in demo package like how to use character editor, game and character screen with pictures and so on.

I wonder from what you get this, I still have the whole series installed on my HD with OSX 10.6.8, still able to run the old versions and I have the pdf manuals for 1&2. They are named Avernum 1 Instructions and Avernum 2 Instructions, but it's totally similar contents than Avernum 3 - Manual for example, including starting hints for example. It's 48 pages for the 1 and 58 pages for the 2.

It's almost certain those pdf manuals was not available at initial release, but they was still available later. Avernum 1&2 also provided the global map (the 3 has probably this map included in the game, not the 1&2) and this was most certainly included in CD release but they are quickdraw format, would be easy to convert them to pdf for example.

It's definitely files I would expect Gog includes, they are the reason I buy digital releases, particularly on Gog, to not have run after files and be sure have them back if I lost them. Well in case of Avernum 1 to 3, it's also to have a wrapper provided.

If this can help I can provide those files.

EDIT: As quoted in this thread a manual is provided inside the game Avernum 1, and it shares a lot of its contents with the game manual. But the pdf is much more handy, you can read the pdf before to start the game, it has a large party creation section, which is also available in game but still is handy to check through a manual.
