Dear fellow adventurers!

I am trying to launch the game for the first time, I have downloaded it via the GOG launcher and tried starting it, I get a small screen and then nothing. The Play button is grayed out until the small window disappears then I can click it again. I have tried changing the resolution in the games .ini without any success it is currently set to 800x600. Does anyone know why I can't launch the game :)?

Thank you kindly!

Euthanasia: Does anyone know why I can't launch the game :)?
Well, the game is old and issues on modern systems may occur.

First of all, I would try launching the game using its own executable, not from GOG Galaxy.
If the game won't work even outside Galaxy, I would try setting its executable to run in compatibility mode for Windows XP and maybe to be run as administrator.

Anyway I strongly suggest you to use Arx Liberatis in order to run the game: it's an open source port of the game which fixes a lot of issues on modern systems.

Hey DR. Schliemann!

I actually tried that to without avail... hmm do you think that is the only to get it working :/? I really like running things through the Galaxy launcher, usually it is incredibly easy to :) this is the only game that is not launching for me so far :/

Highly recommend you install Arx Libertatis from the links provided above! It's really the only way I play. Works great here under Win10x64, v1903.
I would also recommend Arx Libertatis generally; but in case you tried that and had issues, note that there's just been an official update for the 20th anniversary which provides support for Windows 10, so one of the two will hopefully work.

n.b. It's currently unclear to me whether the new official patch has benefited in any way from A.L.; but if not, then I would suspect A.L. would (still) be the better option.

Where can I find that new official update? My Google-fu (and Tae-Kwon-DuckDuckGo) has come up empty, so has dredging Arkane & Bethesdas News feeds from May & June, including the big Arkane20 thing.

Thanks!

It's included in the current GOG installer.

Thanks! Sounds like it was more of a GOG update than one released by Arkane that would be available to old guys like me who still own the disc and don't own it on GOG. Then again, it's only a buck and a half on GOG right now, might as well pick it up.

Seems like they only updated installers but didn't release patch itself. It would also explain why game still is showed as version 1.21.

You could also use your CD version with Arx Libertatis.
