I keep getting neg. 2-3 points per mission, and they just threatened me with a court martial after the 5th mission! How do I avoid this? I haven't caused any friendly fire, and I try to stay with my squad as best as possible. What am I doing wrong?
Probably it's a bug. You shouldn't have any problems keeping score on plus if you are not killing friendlies or civilians.

Try to restart campaign first. Maybe it will help.
Yeah I hate that...you just have to make sure you score in the positive not negative. This means making sure you score at least one kill per mission and not simply follow the squad around...yep this is Arma so it aint gona be that easy..ways to get good positive scores...follow orders from squad leaders...don't shoot and injure your squad mates...get some confirmed kills if you can....grabbing a law and taking out mobile armor really helps your scores...I hear ya tho man...nobody wants to get dismissed by that freaky looking cold-faced meat puppet (i mean the commanding officer)..its happened to me many times...im still addicted to op-flashpoint/Arma regardless of any of that....the game rules.

I got about 3 confirmed kills in every mission, I was crazy careful about friendly fire and I was keeping to my squad and completed commands to my best ability, and yet, my score went into negatives like mad. I was repeating missions and campaign to no avail. Isn't there a cheat to prevent that?
I dont know of any cheat for positive scores but thee are so many cheats and mods that theres bound to be one out there...actually yeah..sometimes you get negative scores outta nowhere..and also its not enough just to be in the positive..you got to be well in the positive (by at least 100 or 200 pts)....yeah i know it can get frustrating and its really the only thing about ArmA that gets me sometimes..but the game is so big and so great in every other way that its really a mall price to pay...if you get frustrated do some single missions then come back....also dont forget that if you dont want to or cant go online you can start an offline lan server and choose your mode..the game fills the map with bots in many cases so you have infinite replay value in multiplayer bots..many modes many maps..failing that download one of the thousands of mods and have fun with that...this game is the king of replay value.

Well, on few missions I had 0 kills and still my score was positive or neutral (0 points, 0 stars), so I don't know what is the problem here. For me it looks like some people have a bug.

I also had this problem until I applied the official update which was announced by some BIS guy here on the forums. You can find it here.

Some of the links are dead but at least one hoster still works. After applying the patch I restarted the campaign. Previously I only got scores of 0 or even -1, now I've replayed the first few missions and I always got scores like 1 or 2 - I actually performed a bit better than before, but still I think that the patch addressed this issue, particularly after achieving 2 points in a mission where I previously got -1, despite the fact that I actually didn't play much better this time.
