Who the hell is your PC? All we know is that you managed to get aboard the presumably exclusive Zephyr on (iirc?) its maiden flight from Caladon to Tarant, and that you're obviously new to the area since you don't know where anything is nor what's going on (or you lived in incredible isolation)

Now let me be clear, this isn't a criticism of Arcanum, which I love, but as an RPer it vexes the hell out of me.

Granted, we have Backgrounds but often the don't tell you much: Bookworm, Tomboy, Single Child -or- they are downright inconceivable: Bandit, Barbarian, Factory Escapee

So to the RP'ers out there: Help a brother out? Where's your adventurer from and how'd they get onto the Zephyr?

Bonus: Is being a literal Settler (or at least visitor) from Cattan an option? Any lore/geography buffs remember what's going on there at present?

Cattan, IIRC, is sort of an island resort for the fabulously wealthy from Caladon and Tarant. Part of it, at least.

As for why your character is on board the Zephyr...there are as many possible reasons as you can imagine. It's kind of up to you to answer that question. My Troll Offspring halfling thief was there to escape Johnny Law and monster hunters, and to steal from the passengers.
Yeah I know, I just wish it were more defined. I feel for optimal RP I need to answer four questions
- what's your background (provided ingame)
- where are you from (and why so unfamiliar with the area)
- why are you aboard the Zephyr
- finally, how did you board the Zephyr

As to Cattan I can't remember where I read about it in game, do you?
Did you peruse through the descriptions of the pre-generated characters? They give each a brief but fleshed-out background including their reasons for being on that airship. Sad, really, once you realize that all of them (or all but one, if you play one of them yourself) comprise the corpses that litter the crash site.

As for me, my gnomish professional knife tosser is no Batman; he only missed once, but once was enough. He figures a fresh continent, away from anyone who's ever heard of his infamous mistake, will give him the fresh start he craves. Ah, how little he knows, including to be careful what one wishes for....

Just choose a background that sounds good to you, flesh out a story for yourself if you wish, or don't, because they set it up easily enough that with the crash you forget who you are and so you should be roleplaying your dialogue choices right from the get-go as they fit for who you want to be and grow your character whether you know your reason for being on it or not, and then the story will unfold as you play it. Don't get too hung up on it, it works.
My black widow enchantress had spent an night with some dandy boy.
Looting his corpse in the morning, she found the luxury cruise ticket and thought "what the heck"...

Nice.
I was just a poor country boy who's girl had been kidnapped. Through a tenuous connection in the criminal underground, I learned she had been trafficked across the continent. After selling the farm, I was barely able to afford a ticket in steerage aboard the IFS Zephyr in hopes of finding my lost love.

Hopefully, someone in Tarant will know where she is. I can't lose hope. I will find my sweet Belledonne before she disappears into that vast criminal underground of the east...
Hi guys,

sorry if this is off-topic, but today I tried to create a new topic and it tells me this:
"As an anti-spam measure, you cannot post without having any completed orders."
and now I can't create a new topic. It seems that I can only post.

Do you guys know what I need to do in order for me to create topics normally like before?

I apologize again for posting here, but I didn't know what to do, I hope somebody can advise me in the right direction.

I'm guessing, but this may be their latest measure to deter the ongoing wave of spammers and spambots, who join the forum, register, post their trash. and then leave without ever buying anything.

Have you ever bought something, anything, from GOG? If you haven't, the only way around it may be to buy at least one game. If you already have, however, then I'm as mystified as you are.

There are several games that GOG offers for free, which still count as an "order", I think. This could be a way around it. Beneath a Steel Sky is one example. Just "buy" it for free, and it should complete an order on your account and then maybe that will lift the posting restriction. Maybe. I'm just guessing.

Yes, you need to contact support. This is from the new, supposedly temporary anti-spam measures. "Buying" a free game is unlikely to fix it as the filter specifically checks if the account only owns the free games. At least that's how it was described.
Thanks for your help guys.

TwoHandedSword, I haven't bought anything from GOG yet.

A support person contacted me and helped me re-enable my create topic ability, and now it works normal again, thanks again everyone.
Happy to have been of help.

Which of course begs the question: why not?!
I had already bought Arcanum long before I discovered this forum, and being very busy with work I only had time for that lately, and I have only been active in the Arcanum forum for now, but hopefully I will get more free time from work to check out a few titles from GOG in the near future.
