If a spell has a cost that is displayed as 30 [6/10 seconds], does that mean it will drain 6 fatigue every 2 seconds for 10 seconds for a total of 30 and then stop draining? Or will it continue draining indefinitely?

I'm wondering because most spells in the summoning school use this form of casting cost, and it's useful to know whether I can wait for all 30 fatigue to be drained, and then enter combat with a creature that doesn't cost me anything.

That's not what it means.

In the case of a summoning spell, 30(6/10seconds) means it will cost you 30 Fatigue to cast the spell initially and you will then lose 6 every 10 seconds that the creature remains around; high level spells that require maintaining are very costly!

You cancel the spell by clicking on its icon in the bar at the top.

Oh, you will regain fatigue at your normal rate while a spell is active, the amount is your healing rate every 10 seconds. If you cast a 10(1/10) spell and had a healing rate of 3 you would gain 2 fatigue every 10 seconds while the spell was active. Best get a high CON if you want to maintain a lot of creatures!
