I would like to know what are those five squares in the middle of the upper part of HUD.
The more you raise your INT the more squares you can use for... something.

I apologize if this is something very trivial but I have completed the game once as a technologist and never used them.
I thought that they are hotkey slots for magic and the lower ones are for items but that is not the case.

They are for maintaining spells. Casting a shield on someone, or temporarily inflating a stat, etc.
