I am trying to create a hulk-like character, but iam not sure which combination of background and skills i should use.
Race is Half-Oger, of course and since Hulk is a scientist/doctor at least a little bit Tech must be involved and he fights barehanded.
For the Background i got three choices: Tough Hide, Mad Doctor and Beat with an ugly stick.


What would be your choice ?

My choice of those 3 would be Tough Hide, just because the 10 extra free DR is irreplaceable, but for someone just starting out i'd go with Beat With An Ugly Stick. It will make combat easier for you. You will probably have to dump at least a few points into beauty though, because if it gets extremely low random people will just attack you in towns, making you a criminal everywhere. Though that might fit the whole Hulk/Frankenstein playstyle.

If you really want a deeper answer, DR only comes from worn items, so the fact an ogre starts with +10, then can get another +10 with that background is great for maximizing your character. You can build up your insane strength later, it doesn't need to be there all at the beginning, but you can never get that free DR again. On the other hand, it is extremely easy to knock down every monster once you get ST 20 and some decent melee skill. So it is especially nice for someone who is (let's assume) new to the game and might quit out of frustration at the Black Mountain Clan mines.

Basically half-ogre is rigged either way, beat with stick is easier early.
