Is it possible? Is there an alternate fan-run server somewhere that I can connect to? Or can I use something like hamachi to connect directly with friends?

Use the service called Gameranger, its free, its supported for Arcanum. I would plan to play with others so you can get a game started. Hope that helps =)
Gameranger is used to play a lot of old title games online with others whos service no longer exists, like say Age of Empires, or even custom games that act like a LAN game that you play over the internet with others. You can play Diablo 2 for example. Its service is still around but you can play LAN games over the internet.

I've been unable to locate a community-based server.
Yes, Hamachi works with any IP-based LAN capable application.

Hamachi is another wonderful example =)
Thanks for the quick response!
Has anyone successfully started multiplayer game with high resolution patch installed? The only time I was able to launch multiplayer was when I uninstalled high resolution patch.

Are you talking about multiplayer games with GameRanger here?

Actually I was not able to launch Arcanum using GameRanger at all (Windows 7 and Windows Vista, in both cases game crashes). The only case I launched the game, hosted and connected from the other computer was using real LAN and both games without high resolution patch.

What is the high resolution patch you all speak of and how do I install/uninstall it? [ed: found thread about patching thread about patching]

Running Windows 7; also experienced game crash when I tried to launch the multiplayer game in GameRanger (same issue neotask is having).

Tried Hamachi and we were able to connect- The remote computer (running XP I believe) was able to see my game (hosted on my Win 7 machine) in Arcanum's multiplayer join game list but the connection would always fail.

So far can't play a remote multiplayer game :(

I might try connecting over my LAN with another laptop (Vista) in my house, but that sorta defeats the purpose since I'm trying to play with a friend in another state.

GameRanger and gog.com version of Arcanum would just get an error when I try to start the game, had to remove/delete ddraw.dll from the game folder to fix it. Don't know what the added ddraw.dll is for that wasn't in cd version but it breaks GameRanger. =/

*Edit* After fixing that I played on GameRanger with my friend no problems on Windows 7 64 bit and Windows XP 32 bit. Even with patches to UAP081229, UAP91225, HQ_Townmaps, Highres patch, I was able to host a game no problem. We finished the multiplayer map and I wish there was more.
