After installing the unofficial patch, hi res patch and HQ town patch the game fails to launch. I click on the .exe and nothing happens. Any thoughts?
This question / problem has been solved by joshuahaderachimage
Where did you install the game file? It has worked for me under c:/games/arcanum or whatever it self-creates. The important thing is to keep it out of program files especially if running vista/win7. I manually created the games folder in my root c:/ directory and haven't had any problems installing and running the game with the unofficial patches.

I reinstalled elsewhere and it still doesn't work so...

I reinstalled and tested it after installing each patch. It work with the unofficial patch, but stops working after installing the hi res patch. I'll try not using certain option of the patch and just keep it to the minimum

EDIT/UPDATE: I tried just using the hi res option (1650x1050) and size 18 font, and it doesn't work.

This thread and specifically Petrell's response is what I used although I didn't do the highres towns and mp3s till last, still worked for me. Make sure you also right click and run the patches as an Administrator if you are on vista. Are you sure you have answered the questions that the hi-res patch asks correctly? I got the height and width measurements confused and had to start over. Everything else just went through with whatever. Might help to mention your system specs too. Sorry can't be more specific, only bought and installed yesterday and had no problems following the above link.

I followed his guide. The game works right up until I install the Hi Res mod. Answering everything correctly. Just in case I wasn't, I even tried doing the opposite.

The HR patch has to be installed as an admin as well. If you didn't do that, go to the Arcanum install directory, right click the HighRes.bat, click "Run as an administrator" and uninstall the patch. After the uninstall, right click the HighRes.bat, click "Run as an administrator" and reinstall the patch. . . . =)

Edit: Leave the font at it's default size to start with. Also, right click the game shortcut, click properties, click the compatibility tab and check mark disable desktop composition and disable visual themes.

It's definitely a problem with the resolution you are choosing with the hi-res patch. I once tried a weird resolution and the game didn't launch at all, then changed it to something more standard and the game worked again.

The game will not launch in resolutions your video card and screen cannot support.
Go into your display properties and go though the supported resolutions that fit your screen and choose one of them to enter into the high res patcher.
