I think his problem was with the thugs at the bridge out of Shrouded Hills.
It can be a hard battle.
It took me some tries to get out of there too.
Fighting alone didn't work.
In the end I threw a grenade which landed at the right spot causing serious damage to 2 of the 3 thugs.
It was enough for me and my party to finish them off.

You know, if you put one point into persuade, you can convince the bandits to leave and give you 200 coins?

Yeah I know, but i had already accepted their bridge materials quest, which meant that option wasn't available....

Ant this is the way how to join an underground (thief guild) in Tarant. Maybe the only way.

If you rob the bank in shrouded hills and tell the guy in the inn that you don't want to share, you don*'t have to kill the thugs !
They get killed by the Doc, who is waiting for you to take revenge for robbing the bank. He is levle 35 by the way :D

I saw the option to persuade them to let me pass.
As I wanted the xp for the kills and the content of the crate, I killed them.
Grenades came from the crash site.
It took a while to get a descent hit as I have no skill points in throwing.
With both Magnus and Sogg it was still a hard battle.

By abusing the haste spell and strength buff I killed them all in two or three rounds using a rapier. When I get to the city and buy a dagger of speed I am unstoppable. Killed the level 40 thief boss when I was level 11.

Im stuck in S Hills too. I keep running round trying to hit random encounters so i can lvl. Not fun.

TheDeathWalrus: Yep, agreed to blow up bridge. Completed i think nearly all the town quests except the one for the mage. Played quite a few hours. Think i need to start again with new char *sigh*
