Getting back to my childhood here and attempting to create some custom backgrounds on Arcanum. Problem is, I can't find the Undat utility to modify the files.

If anyone has them, or has an updated how to on background editing with notepad, I'd really appreciate it!

P.s. I was attempting to use the guide listen on gamefaqs.

You can get a number of modding/extracting utilities here (my preferred one is DATBuilder):
http://www.terra-arcanum.com/downloads/

If you're referring to this guide, it suggests creating new files from scratch. If you do this, you won't need to unpack the original data. If you choose to extract and modify the original files, keep in mind that you'll have to use different line numbers from what's listed (just look through the file, note the pattern and extend it accordingly).

You can download the UnDAT utility here: http://www.terra-arcanum.com/downloads/arcanum/tools/UnDAT_MatuX_TMS.zip

EDIT: YnK went first and was more useful by far. :-)

It's very easy to download someone else's custom backgrounds, examine the files they modify, and do your own by hand. That's how I do it. No editor necessary (beyond a text file editor).
Thanks so much! Haven't been back to the forums in a bit due to Fallout 4.
