If you installed the High Res patch, I would uninstall the High Res patch first ( C:\Program files\GOG.com\Arcanum\HighRes.bat ) and reinstall by right-clicking and clicking "Run as Administrator" to reinstall. Also . . .
When you install the game, on Vista / Win 7, you need to right click the setup.exe and click "Run as an administrator" from the resulting dialog.
If you just double-click the setup.exe, Vista / Win 7 tends to block some disk writes so the game is not installed fully. If you did not install as an admin, uninstall the game, manually delete any Arcanum folders left by the uninstall at C:\Program Files\Gog.com\xxxx and reinstall as an admin described above.
Also after reinstalling or if you installed as an admin, right click the game shortcut, click Properties, click the Compatibility tab, and uncheck "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" and check "Run this program as an administrator" in the Privilege box
Set the path in the game shortcut to "C:\Program files\GOG.com\Arcanum\Arcanum.exe" -no3d -doublebuffer
Adding the -no3d -doublebuffer seems to cure several graphics problems.
Edit: add -no3d -doublebuffer . . . your path may be different . . .=)
See attached image . . .
Make sure you have the latest video drivers installed as well.
When you have the game stable, you might consider installing the UAP, HR town maps and HR patch as well. They work great for me although the HR patch does give problems for some. Make sure you enter a resolution your video card supports and install all the patches (Vista / Win 7) as an admin.

You might want to add the -no3d -doublebuffer switches as well since they seem to help most installs . . . =)
my game Arcanum crashes ever time I play. I just like my money back to get something else. thank you!

What you'll want to do then is contact Support (the link is at the top of every GOG page) and explain your situation to them. The boys in blue rarely read these game-specific forum threads.

Alternately, you can post your specs here, along with what you've tried and what's been happening, and see if any of us can help you figure it out. IMO, Arcanum is too good a game to just give up on like that.
Im running window 8 will these old games run on new windows
