This is frustrating I tried changing the extension but I guess windows 7 is just dumb. typing userport.mes doesnt change the extension.

probably its me thats dumb. Any help is GREATLY APPRECIATED!

Try this. Make a new text document and do your editing. When done select 'save as' and the bar below where you type the file name click on it and change it from .txt to 'all files' and then name the file userport.mes.
