TwoHandedSword: Further, the only benefit of ST to a non-Melee character is in reduced encumbrance.

ewmarch: I'm not going to argue about things which are simply false or with people who can't read.
You mean how I didn't point out that ST increases your character's HP (by 2 per point)? Or how every weapon has a MSR (minimum strength required) to use it effectively? Or how higher strength supposedly makes you tougher overall?

The strength HP bonus is nice, but far from crucial; your HPs go up by +2 per level anyway, by +1 with each point invested in WP, by +4 per CP if you choose to invest directly into them, and by a whopping +100 if you follow the gods' quest to its conclusion.

And for every single Throwing weapon, that MSR is the base ST of 8; no exceptions.* In theory, more strength lets you throw them farther (in much the same way that a higher PE extends your potential shooting range). But I've never not been able to throw my weapon all the way across the screen; and since a boomerang or chakram was never intended as a sniper's weapon (and dungeon walls tend to limit your effective range anyway) that's plenty far enough for me.

Lastly, while I'm not entirely sure whether or not ST has an effect on either AC or DR — the player's guide seems to imply that it does — those numbers are capped at 95 anyway; there always has to be a chance that an attack will get through.

*Unless you count grenades, which technically don't even have a MSR, since they're kept in your inventory rather than your throwing arm.

ewmarch: Best of luck to all of you.
I'm sorry to see things go this way. You had some good info in your original post, and I don't think anyone here ever intended to antagonize you.
I for one am glad to see him go, ewmarch seems like an abrasive dumbass.

also, there is no meaningful advantage to picking one gender over another. theres a tiny advantage to being male if you plan to be a pure melee character, but it is not a significant advantage.

That's an unfair characterization. He has his preferences and biases — as do the rest of us — but it's all out of love for this game. In fact, he's the one who built this rebalancing mod, based on how he felt the game could be further improved, and was working on an even more ambitious and all-encompassing v2.0.

I for one hope he's NOT gone for good. I don't always agree with his position, but I fully respect where he's coming from.
