So I just downloaded this game yesterday and I'm loving it! Great RPG experience so far. I'm having a great time as a rogue-ish character who relies on charm, wits, stealth and firearms. The atmosphere is tremendous.

A couple of questions, though.

First, I've seen things here and there about an unofficial patch. Is it worth abandoning my current playthrough to start over?

Second, multiplayer looks like a lot of fun. Can anyone recommend any good modules out there? Preferably stuff that's on the easier side, my friends and I all like to build characters in these games that aren't necessarily "powerful" but which seem like they'd be fun to play.

Thanks for the help!

I guess that depends on how far you are. The patch is definitely recommended, as it fixes a whole slew of bugs and can even (optionally) restore some content that the developers didn't have time to include in the official release (think items and character animations). You can also add higher quality townmaps. If you haven't gotten too far in the game yet, it might be worth it to start over with the patch.

Another nice fanmade add-on is the high resolution patch, which lets you set any resolution for the game. I think the game looks better with the resolution raised slightly... the default is 800x600 and I usually set it to 1024x768 just to get a little bigger view of the area around my character. Going higher might make the objects in the game rather small though. The high-res patch will also let you set widescreen resolutions so you don't have black bars on the sides on a widescreen monitor, which is cool.

I have never tried multiplayer so I can't comment on it. The manual says that in multiplayer you can't use turn-based combat or fast-travel though, so be aware of that.

I never downloaded the unofficial patch and still thought the game was great. I never ran into any bugs. I'm not saying that you shouldn't download it, I'm just saying that I thoroughly enjoyed the game without it.

As for multiplayer, I've never tried it. Sorry.
Something you should really consider for a tech-oriented character is Krupp's Ranged Weapon Mod (I think that's what it's called). Basically it rebalances the game so that guns are a viable alternative to magic as opposed to glorified pea shooters.
Yeah I would say get all the patches and start over. Trust me, you're gonna play the game a million times over anyway might as well start now.
I definitely recommend to use the unofficial patch... the main one.
Does not alter the balance or the feel of the game, but it makes the game a lot better.
There were a lot of annoying bugs, especially in dialogues, which have been fixed.
There were also some problems with some of the best schematics in the game for techies, which have been fixed.
I also recommend the high quality town maps, high quality music and the complex shadows fix.
However, I do not recommend the higher resolution patch.
I tried the game at 1600x900 and, imho, it looked like complete shit.
hello, i have a few questions also...

1. will there be somewhere an npc who will identify items for me for free? if not..
2. can a melee character(i will rise int a bit) to be able to identify items throught all the game?
3. why blacksmith doesnt repair items who can repair items in towns?
4. how to stop mage( the first companion who meets me at the crash zepelin) to run into melee fight but to heal? he is a pain in the a.. when he doesn cast a single spell but runs into melee and doesnt do any damage.. :(

p.s. the game is so fantastic, been playing it for half a day. :)

1. There are no characters who will identify things for you for free. Though once you get going in the game a bit, the 100 gold isn't as much of a huge hit as the early part of the game. If you are a mage and get the spell Divine Magic in the Divination College you can identify things yourself.

2. Having a higher intelligence doesn't help you identify things (there isn't a 'lore' stat or anything like that as in some other similar type RPGs), but like I said before, if you are a fighter/mage and you have divine magic you can identify things. But really, it isn't that useful in my opinion.

3. I am confused about your question here. You're asking why the blacksmith (I would assume Lloyd in Shrouded Hills) doesn't repair things? If you are going to the repair item menu (separate from the trade window) through the dialogue tree you click on different items to have him repair them. Some blacksmiths are not as trained as others and so they won't be able to repair items to full 'health' without taking away a few of the maximum hit points of the item. Also sometimes blacksmiths can't repair things that are too badly damaged (actually broken) - I think those show up as red in your inventory.

4. Unfortunately you can't do anything about Virgil's combat AI. The mage AI in the game is pretty weak, and so Virgil will go run around hitting things for most of the game. He actually becomes a decent melee fighter, if you give him good enough stuff, and he does usually take the time to heal you if he has the spell and the fatigue to do so.

I'm glad you're enjoying the game!
Usually the junk guys (the ones who will buy literally anything and sell mostly scrap parts and garbage) have a really high repair skill and will repair things. I found that the blacksmiths in this game sometimes randomly dont have the option to repair and when they do they have a worse skill than the junk dudes. Maxamillian in caladon will repair 100%

Yeah, the best early game smith is the Junk Dealer in Tarant on the docks.
Thanks for support. I think now im enjoying the game to the fullest. ( with hd map pack and unnoficial fan patch and hd resolution.
Im level 10 and as melee with a blacksmith i made myself some weapons and got a dwarf to join me. This game is really a gem.Didnt expected it to have such good atmosphere.

For your previous question 3 did you mean that your character has points in the Smith technology discipline? With that you can only built items, but you can put points in the Repair skill to repair your own armor and weapons as well.

Yes i choosed smithing, got some nice gear with that skill, and repair, didnt noticed i need a repair yet, all items has full health.. :)

P.S. in cities, its annoying that when i try to scroll with arrows when i move, they sort of jam and struggle to move.. so sometimes my character is at the side of the screen and i keep clicking arrows so i can keep walkiing.. :( any idea how to fix it?

hmm... I think this has to do with the widescreen patch. I remember having a similar problem (though I just use the mouse to scroll the screen) of it sometimes not scrolling correctly. Possibly try to just scroll using the mouse (move it toward the edge of the screen) instead of with the arrow keys.
