Dropping several dungeons' worth of loot in a single dungeon will crash your game the next time you enter said dungeon. If you actually need to reenter it to progress, or there are quest items in the stash, it's game over. Don't do it.
Eeek. Why would you even WANT to? it's not like you need to dump all your excess stuff for a good reason (other than to crash the game or experiment and crash the game once you drop all that stuff). It's a given that the game (and others where you can drop items) don't have infinite room for discarded items without something bad happening, so hopefully you saved before doing that test ;^P
There is a lot of bags to contain your loot for a good reason. I thought that patch 1.1 has solved this bug but unfortunately not. But this bug doesn't occur until you drop literally dozens things in one place/dungeon and that is not necessary at all.

It's also very good idea to have one or two bags full of stones to be able to solve puzzles with pressure plates quickly.

Started as a meleeing mage who only has 80 strength, constantly emcumbered when carrying just two sacks around (one with 3 boulders [31kg] & one with 10 rocks [51kg]), usually dropping them off to dungeon entrances & fetching them when required.

PS. Speaking of rocks, there's a weird glitch concerning the annoying rolling boulders - If you run after them & "push", their trajectories change, sometimes to the better or for worse.

Ha, that's what happened to me when i played this game in the past. I always stripped the dungeons clean and dumped everything at their entrances. After clearing the underground city i decided to move everything there for easy access. That's when i reached the item limit. Luckily i saved before.
It is required to drop many more items then two bags with stones to crash to happen. And correct me if I'm wrong but I think there is no severe penalization for being encumbered.

I think it happens also in my first playthrough. I haven't used sacks much to organize my inventory and dumped a lot of items on the ground at the beginning of Underground city without putting them in the sacks first.

Not gotten too far (Dark Lantern) & only using one sack of 9 rocks + a boulder = 56kg, worked on all pressure plates so far. Wonder if I need to adjust it later on.

There's no effect on being encumbered when moving around. If you're encumbered & start bashing the bad guys, eventually you'll receive -1 strength & -1 agility stats, which will go away after a little pause from fighting -> "You feel less tired" (movement doesn't seem to affect this to my knowledge).

Later on you will need a couple more (two to three) but most of the pressure plate puzzles can be solved with two sacks. And you can also sometimes use magical cubes (can't remember the name of the item) to create the big cube to pressure the plate.

As I have thought there is next to no penalization for being encumbered so it's not necessary to dump items at all.

In Dark Lantern tower levels there is a couple pressure plates required to advance, but you can find all the required weight pretty much nearby (boulders) instead of carrying a sack, as in one plate needs 3 boulders & the second 5 boulders (am writing all this down for later reference & perhaps to make complete maps). Using the automap quill pen is quite handy keeping track of things.

Block Figurines, they're a funny bunch, but not used a single one yet (only tested how they work). They're my companion cubes...

Also found a couple bugs:

- Backlash ("return to sender"-throwing star) disappearing; The only way to make it work as it is supposed to is to THROW it first by pressing T in the game screen once, THEN equipping it.
- If the automap quill pen text reaches close to the right side of the screen, mouse cursor becomes laggy & makes it hard, even impossible to remove the said text.

Screw stones, I've learn the proper way to fight them mongrels without losing much health (Shackles of Ice is imbalanced in that way, but one can avoid hits like a ninja without it after a while).

Threw the stones away (literally at the enemies, oops) & having a sack full of healing potions/magic plants was enough to press any pressure button down (+100kg at the moment, might have to divide them into two sacks at some point).

Love this game.
Stones, are there more people who have the kikoskia fetisch of rocks? people who him as lets plyer on youtube understand this joke

ROCKS YOU SAY?! BOULDERS & THEM TINY PEBBLES?!

My first stone sack weights 231kg & backup stone chest is 172kg (not really necessary...) Besides, loads of other containers you can use instead of stones, the maximum weight I've tested was 100kg.
+
Healing/mana items + quest item sack = 99kg
Magic items -only sack = 114kg
Weapons -only item chest = 60kg
Ivory Plate armor -only chest = 44kg (or you can leave the armour being cursed, an instant 100kg! :D)

Only carrying 760 kilograms from a dungeon to another, good training!

Bug-wise:

- Had had similar a vanishing bug with Steelripper (spear) as I had with Backlash.
- Am also unable to enter back into Underground City now (thought I left no extra stuff laying about in there, what the ef...?!)
-Underground City automap only works after pressing C a thousand times & when pressed one too many times, it closes the map (as it goes into Character Window)... Brilliant.

*EDIT* Anyhow, am going to post the maps I've gathered so far, up until Edge of Clay AKA Sanctuary (+ the "secret" shopkeeper's place & what items he sells). I might have to provide certain maps on another gameplay, as I'm unable to venture to that gawddaymn Underground City (unless finding a way around or going back by another means). One only has hope...

Nonetheless, don't laugh lol.

*EDIT* Found a workaround getting back to both Elder Tree & Reed Plain entrance without going through the glitchy Underground City by using UGE (Universal Game Editor) & AoD Module for it, editing the savegame's coordinates to:

Elder Tree: level 16, 38x,31y
Reed Plain: level 19, 41x, 29y

*BUMP*
Entrance to Gorge Keep is as follows: level 18, 31x, 16y (as I couldn't enter both places because of the crash)

Just finished both Reed Plain & Gorge Keep, here are the full maps for both:

Iron Titan is by far the worst/most complex dungeon map(s) in the game, was giving my head in... Finally done it, goodness gracious.

Took me a couple hours to find out that I cannot get into the inaccessible rooms by any other means than using Ritual of Unmaking & couple more to find where the easiest access points were located. Normally it uses 600 spell points, but for walls, pillars & such it wastes 1050 points...
Another PSA: don't try to use the eye of insight on the overland map to see what happens. Spoiler: nothing good.
