Hey together,

i've tried running Albion with 4 different PCs (or better hardware configurations) over the years and it crashes directly after the intro videos, but only in the german version. The english one runs fine.
Playing the english version wouldn't be a problem in theory, but i wanted to relive my childhood memories and play in the same language as back in the days. Sadly my original CD has too many scratches on it, damn careless past-self.

I doubt the specs will help in this case, but the actual ones are:
AMD Ryzen 9 3900X / 32 GB / RTX 3080 TI
AMD Ryzen 9 4900 HS / 16 GB / RTX 2060 Max-Q
Both are Windows 10 21H1, all drivers&Bios up2date.

Tried all the graphics settings, but they make no difference at all and google isn't any real help nowadays thanks to Albion Online.

All i get is a neat striped screen right before the crash with no error message at all. (see attachment). Maybe anyone has an idea how to fix that, whatever it is.
I couldn't find any error-logfiles, nor does the Windows eventlog shows anything about the crash.

The dosbox stdout.txt reads:

DOSBox version 0.74-2.1
Copyright 2002-2018 DOSBox Team, published under GNU GPL.
---
CONFIG:Loading primary settings from config file ..\dosbox_albion.conf
CONFIG:Loading additional settings from config file ..\dosbox_albion_single.conf
MIDI:Opened device:win32
DOS keyboard layout loaded with main language code GR for layout gr

Is there any way to enable verbose mode for troubleshooting?
[log]
logfile=F:\albionlog.txt wont work in the config.

Thanks :)

A bit different, but you could try using the Statically Recompiled port.
https://github.com/M-HT/SR
(Or for the direct link to the releases) https://github.com/M-HT/SR/releases/tag/albion_v1.7.1

No idea if you'll get better luck with the German version using this port as I assume it was created for the English version, but it may be worth a shot.

If you decide to try it, copy the files into the main Albion game folder and make sure to follow the included readme instructions completely.

You'll need to extract the Albion folder from the game.ins/game.gog file (I used WinCDEmu portable) and put it in your game directory. It's then recommended to rename that folder AlbionCD and you'll need to edit the setup.ini to point to it like so:

SOURCE_PATH=ALBIONCD\
You can then edit Albion.cfg for changes like fullscreen, etc. Then run the game with the new SR-Main.exe

I tried this with the Albion-Windows-x86-v1.7.1-sdl2.zip and was able to get into the game without issue.
