Frequently asked questions
1. What is GOG.com?
GOG.com is the home of Good Old Games, the new games-on-demand platform serving all-time classics at kick-ass prices. And no, it's not “just a store” - it's the site that's all about the greatest games ever and the people who play them. Check out our “About us” page for more info.
2. What are the main features of GOG.com?
Dude, you should really check out that “About us” page... We've got critically acclaimed games for just $5.99 and $9.99, tons of free downloadable content and exclusive add-ons, no DRMs or intrusive copy protection and full compatibility with Windows XP & Vista. And that's only the tip of the iceberg, so please visit our nice “About us” page, okay? We spent a lot of time on it, so it’d be a waste if you didn’t see it.
3. So what's with this DRM thing?
DRM or Digital Rights Management is a kind of copy-protection technology used by many companies to limit the usage of digital media. Although created to stop pirates from creating illegal copies, in reality the only people who are hurt are the legitimate consumers, stripped of their fair use rights, such as the ability to make backup copies. We believe that a DRM-free world would be a better place and that's why you won't find any DRMs or other intrusive copy protection in games available at GOG.com.
4. Is GOG.com available in [enter-country-here]?
GOG.com available to everyone, everywhere and at any time (well “any time” minus any scheduled maintenance ;).
5. Do I need a user account?
A lot of nice functionality is available to registered users as well as guests. Without an account you can rate games, add your comments and even post in the forums. So what's the point of creating a user account? First and foremost to purchase and download games: because your purchased games are linked with your account, you can re-download them whenever you need. You'll also have more privileges on the forums (creating topics, rating posts), access to our after-sales support, the option to post your reviews on the website and much much more (and one more “much” for the things that are yet to come :).
6. How do I create a user account?
Just click “Account login” in the menu, then select “I'm a new member...” and click “Continue”. Account creation is a very simple, one step process - we're sure you will do fine :).
7. Am I logged in or not? And how can I logout?
When you're logged in, you will see a miniature of your avatar in the menu, next to the “My account” option. When you're NOT logged in, you will see the “Account login” option in the menu instead. To logout, click “My account” in the menu and then select “logout”.
8. What's the best web browser for viewing GOG.com?
We've got this zen apprentice guy who uses his magic touch to make sure our website always looks great in all modern browsers. Fairy tales aside, we do whatever we can to provide the best experience under Firefox, Safari, Opera and even Internet Explorer ;). As long as you use the latest version, you shouldn't see any real difference. And if you really want a recommendation, we'd say Safari or Firefox.
9. I'm having problems using GOG.com in my browser. What can I do?
First make sure you're using the latest available version of Firefox, Safari, Opera or Internet Explorer. This excludes betas and so-called nightly builds that might have bugs. If the problem persists, contact us via the "General / Website questions" contact form. Please include as many details as possible about your browser, system and the problems you encountered.
10. How do I cancel my GOG.com account?
We have no idea why you'd want to do that, but if you will ever want to cancel your GOG.com user account, please contact us via the "General / Website questions" contact form. After verifying you are the owner of the account in question and confirming that you want your account to be permanently deleted, our support rep will delete the account for you. Please remember that without an account, you won't be able to re-download your purchased games as well as any additional content available, including updates and patches. Also, it won't be possible to “recreate” the deleted account later, if you change your mind.
