Mod spotlight: Duke Nukem 3D

As the old, wise man says: "There's never enough of Duke" or something like that, right? Either way this mod spotlight is dedicated to the King.

The original Duke Nukem 3D is a game that never gets bored. Even you've finished it 3, 30 or 300 times you'll never get enough of the good ol' Duke - you know it and we know it. But if you'd like to something a little bit different, the Duke Nukem community has prepared couple great modifications - some bring you more of the Duke-gameplay and some make it even better (yeah, right). High Resolution mod

We're starting with something BIG! High resolution mod takes Duke Nukem 3D from 20th to 21st century. The modification changed most of the sprites with proper 3D models, and the rest of the sprites and tiles with high-resolution counterparts. Basically the mod features full tridimensional weapons, monsters and items. Nuff said, it's time to kick some ass in HD!

DukePlus

This is a huge game enhancer and a must have for all Duke Nukem fans. The modification adds loads of new features and new maps. Amog others you'll find here: weather effects, climbable ladders, transparent water, alternate fire modes, lightning system, new weapons, new levels... Stop reading this and download the mod now!

Weapon of Mass Destruction

Duke Nukem: Weapon of Mass Destruction is a total conversion of the original Duke. It's a action packed shooter with RPG elements which introduces tons of new weapon modes, enemies, and player abilities plus a bot companion who fights by your side. If that's not enough you'll also get a chance to fly a skycar and drop bombs on enemies. This modification brings hours of additional gameplay in Duke's boots.

Infestation in time

Another total conversion of the original game. Infestation in time brings new episodes in the Duke Nukem universe and introduces new features, weapons and enemies. The modification implements some things from Duke Plus and what's cool it's compatible with Duke Nukem High res mod.

Since this is the Atomic Edition of Duke Nukem 3D, that means I can finally play Yahtzee's old mod for the game! The only question now is if it's any good...

Kingoftherings: Yahtzee? As in the Australian guy who gives negative reviews to every game he plays?
I didn't know he did Duke3D mods.

He made his own adventure games and a Duke 3D mod long before he started his Zero Punctuation thing. I used to frequent the AGS forums, so I know all about his early career.

Is it me, or are some of the textures shown in the screenshots on GOGs spotlight a bit blurry? Particular note is that of the palm trees on the Duke Plus screenshots, but it is present in many of them, on walls, floors, telephones, magazines, even blood splatter. Does the HRP make some textures blurry or something?

Looks like some kind of weird texture filter at play to me.

Were you playing a modded Duke? Because I'm a minor and if you mean the scene in episode 4 of the pregnancy, then it is too blurry to even see.

I'm sorry but all of these mods......they're terrible. I'll take the OGG soundtrack from the HRP though.

Yeah you are right - it is a graphic glich! I must have taking this screenshot in the wrong time :/ Sorry for that but this mod is great - I recommending this one.

So those graphics glitches on the textures are gone from the latest version of the HRP then? If so then I may think about getting eDuke and HRP next time I play Duke 3D.

Not sure what you are looking at then, cause GOG have confirmed that it is a graphics glitch.

Rohan15: I don't know if I want to beat Duke Nukem on eduke32 or HRP mod version yet....

You all shall try it. Those glitches usually do not appear - I am not sure why they were there in this mod approach. I think that with latest graphic drivers and properly configure graphic options you should have no problems with HR Mod – and I promise you that it is one awesome mod (probably the best mod ever!). Good luck! :)

Well yeah, I already played it on HRM and find it easier, but eduke is more challenging.
