Master of Magic

mmicale's rating:
250

mmicale says: Classic strategy game developed by SimTex and published by Microprose. Feels like Civilization set in a fantasy world. Endlessly customizable with multiple paths to victory including acquisition of the dreaded Spell of Mastery.

Master of Orion 1+2

mmicale's rating:
250

mmicale says: Classic strategy in a sci-fi setting. MOO was one of the first games I finished (too many times). Don't let the dated graphics deter you. MOO2 was even better with improved graphics and more of everything. Two excellent games, one incredible price.

Master of Orion 3

mmicale's rating:
250

mmicale says: The final game in the trilogy was taken by Infogrames after they acquired Microprose. Like other games that Infogrames got, it was half-baked and isn't as fun as others in the series. A decent game that didn't live up to its lofty expectations.

Dragonsphere

mmicale's rating:
250

mmicale says: Very challenging adventure game! Used MADS (Microprose Adventure Development System) engine as other Microprose adventures did. Good use of VGA graphics. Unlike Sierra classics, progress was never lost by the need to restart or restore the game.

Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri™

mmicale's rating:
250

mmicale says: Spiritual successor to Civ II. Created by Microprose developers who formed Firaxis. Excellent, deep and addictive. Alien Crossfire add-on for PC was discontinued well before SMAC and is considered rare. Can still be purchased from SoldOut software.

RollerCoaster Tycoon: Deluxe

mmicale's rating:
250

mmicale says: One of the better "Tycoon" titles developed by Microprose. The series started off with Railroad Tycoon (Sid the Great) and included Transport Tycoon (also by Chris Sawyer). It hit a low point with the infamous Pizza Tycoon. This game is pure fun

Locomotion, Chris Sawyer's

mmicale's rating:
250

mmicale says: The successor to Sawyer's Transport Tycoon. Although 10 years younger, the only difference I noticed when first playing it, upon its release, was slightly enhanced graphics. A fun game, especially for those who haven't yet played TT or OpenTTD.

RollerCoaster Tycoon 2: Triple Thrill...

mmicale's rating:
250

mmicale says: A trend with former Microprose star Chris Sawyer is that his sequels don't add much originality for those who play his original titles, to feel new. RR2 adds some innovations and better graphics but is similar to RR1. 5 stars if you never played RR1.

B-17 Flying Fortress: The Mighty 8th

mmicale's rating:
250

mmicale says: A Microprose remake of their original from 1992, when they were the king of military sims. A sort of hybrid flight sim/RPG that's deep, challenging and fun (in time). If you enjoy it, check out Euro Air War, Falcon 4, F117A, F14 FD and Tank Platoon!

Darklands

mmicale's rating:
250

mmicale says: Simply among the best old school RPGs. The geography is historically accurate and the fantasy elements are true to Germanic mythology. Reputation, not simply combat success, drives your party. Nearly endless options and depth as you battle Baphomet!

Apache Longbow

mmicale's rating:
250

mmicale says: 'Wild' Bill Stealey, cofounder of Microprose, left after it was sold to SpecHolo to start i-Magic in 1995. Lucky for us, he didn't stop making games. His experience as USAF pilot shows in its realism. Also includes an arcade mode for casual gamers.

Hind

mmicale's rating:
250

mmicale says: From MP cofounder. Features a Russian helo (Mi-24) that linked to iMagic's Apache Longbow game. Mild graphics (released in 1996). Adds ground troops with SAMs. Has arcade mode for casual gamers. Not as nimble but more armed and verastile than Apache.

Treat your GOGmix as your child - name it! ;)

Coming up with a cool and descriptive title should be your first priority. Being original is in your best interest - bet you wanna get lots of nice votes, right? Go all crazy if you want, but be sure to keep it civil!

So, what are the ingredients?

Pick a game that belongs in your GOGmix from the list, or find it by typing something in the text field. Relevance is key here - Earthworm Jim doesn't quite fit the "Sexiest heroines of all time" bill now, does it?

Justify your choice... Or not!

OK, so it's not required, but now that you went through the trouble of adding a game, telling everyone why you did it would be a nice finishing touch. After you're done here, add another game, rinse, repeat.
