World Rally Fever is exactly what the title says it is: a fast paced, crazy action racing game that features circuits themed to evoke different famous places around the world, rendered in stylish anime-style graphics and paired with a sleek soundtrack. There are eight characters to choose from, each with unique characteristics that affect the handling of their vehicle. Fair play is something you have to forget and put to one side, because once that race starts there are no rules but one: win. You are not defenseless in this tough competition. There are weapons and power-ups you can use to do more than simply eke out a win: they allow you to win in style, with as many explosive collisions as possible.
World Rally Fever won the hearts of many gamers for its unique gameplay and distinctive visuals. Once you start playing you may find it feels like you were born to ride the road--and find it hard to stop! Controls are responsive, the music is catchy, and the general immersion factor is huge. When this first came out I absolutely fell in love with this arcade racer. Fun arcade style graphics. Fast kart style racing. Nice variety of environments and great arcade style sound. The gameplay is simple and fun. I always have wished they would remake this title with a modern graphics engine. Team 17 has been one of my favorite game devs since the Commodore Amiga days.

World Rally Fever is part of a group of racers that may seem a bit out-dated now. It's the Outrun and Power Drift formula of scaling 2D sprites to give the impression of 3D. Due to the early technology, these games are generally very simplistic, and have have much more basic psychics and such compared to what we're used to. Heck, even when this game came out, we had seen things read more like SEGA Rally Championship which was technically miles ahead of this game. So why am I giving it 5 stars? Simply because FROM this sub-genre of racing games, this is one of the best. If you look at it as what it IS, rather than what it could be, it's a damn fun arcade racer, that's easy to pick up and hard to master. There's also a nice weapons system, which adds a lot to the game (these aren't really common in these kind of racers). My only complaint is that the camera automatically turns when a corner is coming up, causing your car to turn a bit as well. This is confusing at first, since it takes a while to figure out how much you should turn around each corner, or if you even need to turn yourself at all. You still do have to steer around the majority of the corners, so the challenge is still there, but it's confusing at first. So when it comes down to it, what World Rally Fever does is done well. Know what you're getting into when you download this games, and chances are you'll enjoy it.

I remember playing this demo - I loved worms at the time and found it while paroozing the Team17 site. I would play it over and over, normally trying to hit the sheep, but it had the most depth and was the most fun out of any of the racers I played at that time.
